I have been to Beijing but I haven't been to Moscow.Beijing is definitely overcrowded but there are many interesting things for foreigners to see there and do.

I saw some of the Bolshoi re-opening on TV, but not in person. Gossip? I lost interest in local politics a long time ago. There is a sort of stability here, I suppose.

Not all of these cities are bleak; many of them are filled with architectural wonders, beautiful parks, and exciting entertainment and dining opportunities.

Yes, there is much horrible drab communist-era housing and the like. But IMHO it is not much worse than American and W. European post-industrial hellholes and bland suburban sprawl.

I lived in Moscow for 2 years but never went to Beijing. I did live in Seoul for a few years, however, and if Beijing is anything like Seoul, then Moscow wins hands-down.

I've lived in both Beijing and Moscow.

Loved Moscow, hated Beijing which I fondly refer to as "hell on earth".
