I think saying the world is becoming Americanized is kinda offence. The world is becoming more Westernized fused together not Americanized.

I have often heard Americans claiming that the world is Americanised, I think its because a lot of Americasns seem to think that they invented everything from cars (German), to Pizza (Italian), to Denim jeans (French)! Americans also seem to think that something has to be popular in the US before it can be popular elsewhere. I don't know why they have these beliefs, Hollywood perhaps?
Actually I see more stories, reports, and discussions about Americanization (or Americanisation), Americanisms, Americanized (or Americanised) from non-Americans. Google those words and see for yourself.
In the global consiousness, it doesn't matter much where something was invented. It only matters who made these inventions popular on a mass scale or took them to the farthest extreme and made them extraordinary.
The Chinese invented rockets. But the Americans landed rocketships with humans on the moon and also sent rocketships to all the planets in the solar system. So what country do you think people around the world associate rockets more with?

Yeah I think the only sport tops that you'll see American sports teams on them are New York Yankees lol. That's about it pretty much, that or UCLA. I've seen NYY stuff at Primark in Slough, even.
