They're from first world. Portugal and Greece ( i've been there many times ) are more poor and different economies than Italy and Spain.
In Spain or Italy, there are very differences rich zones or poor zones. In Spain, zones like Basque Country, Navarra, Catalonia, are richer by far from the South. And in Italy, the region of Lombardia until Rome, they live very well, the south of Italy and Spain, it seems it's another world. I suppose that in USA, it's like if you live in Seattle or in Miami.
I'm from Barcelona, and I'm absolutely from the first world haha
Have you ever lived in Portugal? I have been living here for years now. And being German I can compare it to Germany, which is always mentioned as one of the most advanced countries. The differences are not nearly as big as you seem to think. Portugal has similar problems as the US, i.e. a bloated service sector, too little manufacturing, a huge debt...
Yes, some people have emigrated, but that has always been the case, that is why Brazil came into being. Portugal is a typical emigration country, just like Ireland. This country has been around for 900 years or so, it will still be here when the US has fallen apart. It is not a sinking ship and most people are staying here. Some of the emigrants have already returned from the rich north after just a few months as they did not like it there. Portugal however is one of the most beautiful places in all of Europe. So are Greece and Spain.
Have you ever been to a 3rd world country? Go to Somalia or Mali, then go to Portugal or Greece. Then you will know the difference and try to delete your foolish post above...
Yeah, I don't think most of these people know what they are talking about. Seems like they are basing their opinions on what they read online.
lol they are more first world than Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana is third world in my opinion lol and probably California sometime soon...Argentina is probably more first world then every state South of Tennessee

How many times have you even been to the United States?
Most of our immigrants speak English and our Latino population is well integrated into "American culture".
Lol I was about to say the same thing. I think in general most immigrants assimilate well into American culture. There are so many Latinos who don't even soeak Spanish.
Also, I've been to Portugal and I don't remember seeing all of the Africans super assimilated. They were all hanging out in their 'bairros' while the White Portuguese were wining and dining in downtown Lisboa.

California? You are crazy to include that state in this group.
As for your comment about Argentina, you must have not spent much time in the villas.
We can easily noticed that many Spanish and Italians regions are among the poorest regions (orange part),
few regions from UK and Germany, and 0 from USA or France for instance.
However I consider Italy and Spain first world countries but the poorest countries among the first world countries.
or this ranking
1) Canada, some scandinavian countries, Australia, France, UK, USA, Germany, some Western European countries like Switzerland
2) Italy, Spain, Ireland
3) Portugal, Czech Republic
4) Mexico, Russia, Eastern European countries, and balkans
5) Many Asian and African countries
We can easily noticed that many spanish and italians regions are among the lowest fourth (orange part),
few regions from UK and Germany, and 0 from USA or France for instance.
The poorest region of America, Mississippi isn't even in the third or fourth quartile where while many of the wealthiest European countries are well represented.

Weinviertel and Mühlviertel (Austria) are also in the orange bracket... and they are far from being third-worldish... Grew up in the Mühlviertel, went to school in the Linz-Wels area (second wealthiest part of Austria) and there was definitely no difference in the quality of life.
