Address: 5055 Regent Parkway,

Description: This 18-hole public course straddles the North Carolina–South Carolina border. It was designed by Florida architect Ron Garl in 1995 and drew high praise and rave reviews in its early years. The course had its struggles and changed ownership a couple of times in the last decade, and seems to be headed in the right direction these days. Garl did a fine job designing the par-71, 6,785-yard layout, and the par-3 17th hole is one of the prettiest and best one-shotters in the region. An interesting side note, the course was built on property that was once part of the PTL ministry of televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker.

2. Springfield Golf Club

Category: Golf
Telephone: (803) 548-3318
Address: 990 Springfield Parkway,

Description: Springfield has been well-received since it opened in 2001 south of Charlotte in Fort Mill, South Carolina. This par-72 course is hilly and wooded, with a lot of cresting fairways and well-protected greens. The par-3 fourth hole catches the eye. The green is farther away than you would like it and set up on a ridge with a stone wall protecting the front of the green. Clyde Johnston, another well-known Carolinas architect, is the creator of this 6,906-yard gem. Enjoy most of your round in seclusion, even though the course is part of a housing community.
