Description: This historic home once belonged to Simon Curtis, known as the boss man of Warwick County. It’s in the historic Lee Hall area and is a Virginia Historic Landmark in its own right. The home opened as a bed and breakfast in 2000 but had a lot of history before then. General “Black Jack” Pershing is among the many military officers who called at this home, and there’s a suite named in his honor. There are two suites and two rooms here, all with queen-sized beds and private baths, and furnished in antiques. Check the website for midweek or out of season specials. No pets, no smoking, and no children. There’s a full breakfast every morning, plus an early bird basket for those who have to run and a sleepy head basket for those who would rather stay in their room.

Description: Sometimes, you just want to stay near the airport so you’ll have no trouble making a flight. This hotel is located less than a mile from Newport News Williamsburg International just off I-64, making it convenient if you have business on the Peninsula or just want to head 15 miles north to tour Williamsburg or stop at nearby Busch Gardens without trying to find a place to stay. There’s a free shuttle to the airport. These are all suites with a complimentary hot breakfast. There’s a heated indoor swimming pool and fitness center and free Internet, both wired and wireless.

It’s close to the city’s business district and 15 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg.

Description: A relatively small Holiday Inn, just 122 rooms and 19 suites, this is a recently built five-floor facility right off I-64. It’s also close to the airport and an easy ride to Williamsburg or any of the area military bases.

Description: This 250-room hotel is right at the city’s upscale retail, restaurant, and business district. It has the largest Grand Ballroom in the area and has been named a Virginia Green Lodging award winner for its environmental efforts. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out on a five-acre fountain and the City Center complex. On-site parking is $6 per day, $12 for valet service, but there is free parking nearby. There are two special concierge levels, but all rooms have CD players, cable TV with HBO, and pay-per-view movies.

Description: This luxury hotel is in a little oasis off I-64 at the heart of City Center. You can bring a small pet for a $50 non-refundable deposit. There’s an Italian restaurant here and a nightclub, Tribeca, which features live music and dancing until 2 a.m.
