Description: Vegetarians from throughout Metro Washington have heard about the Sunflower, and many of them make the trip to Vienna to dine here. Sunflowers decorate the dining room in various shapes and sizes, from the cheery vases at the tables to the art on the walls. Sauces and seasonings are superbly created for entrees like the Songbird, a mix of wheat gluten and soy protein sautéed with peanuts and watercress in a kung pao–flavored sauce, and the wheat gluten sautéed with black bean sauce. Meat-eaters will find a lot to like about this place, too. General Tso’s Surprise and Sweet and Sour Sensation taste much like their similarly named non-vegetarian counterparts when made with Sunflower’s white mushroom and soy protein nuggets.
