ON: Blue Sky Excuses, aka Might have to quit good job because of G.D car!
Let me clarify a bit (RE my earlier post on the subject, which does not seem to sit well with some).
As another person pointed out in this ever-expanding thread, a lot of C-D is matter of perspective. Executives, responding to those just starting out in the working world. Ph.Ds and HS dropouts. High-performers and slackers. Black, White, and every color in between. Americans, Australians, Europeans, etc. On and on: it's a unique melting pot of those who otherwise may not always directly converse.
Thus, there will be radically different perspectives to solving what are pretty obviously (to some) "not" intractable problems, with a little creative thinking. Wasn't that the purpose of the thread, request for suggestions? Or was it therapy?
To wit: I thought these were allegedly "tough times" for finding employment, though the details aren't mentioned all that often. I personally suspect that businesses are these days merely significantly more-cautious about who they hire, due to risks of a bad hire. Too bad, because those details about the job-seeker matter quite a bit to context. If someone has a "3x pay raise", as OP began this, does that mean they're now making $15/hr vs. $5? Or $100K vs. $33K? Think that might matter, perhaps, in steps they're taking (or not taking) to resolve a situation that is entirely-resolvable vs. the alternative (unemployment)?
In my demographic, per US BLS data tables, the unemployment rate (not seasonally adjusted) August 2014 is 3.6%. I'll wager, upon additional detail (not available in the table I saw), it's probably more like half that for those in my line of work. Point being the bulk my peers who want to work, can. In my field, if you're good, you'll find work at 3x median U.S. income within I'm guessing 3 to 6 months of commencing a concerted, well thought-out effort.
If someone is "upset" and "needs help," might it not follow that smartest-money (literally and figuratively) is to root-cause analyze what caused failure to begin with, and promptly take steps to rectify? Can probably help a bit: that's actually what life-coaches do. Ditto doctors, lawyers, and other professional counselors.
I guessing now that's rather alien thinking, to a big chunk of the U.S., circling back to second paragraph above. Wow...
