The hottest day on record was June 28 1953 when the temperature hit 86.0°F.
Record for July 20. All of the records I've posted were new daily records.

Only 1 day has shown a high below 60 for the month. This week the high temps have been and will remain below average for Fairbanks, but for the month (so far) more days have been above average than below.

A cool map at the Weather Underground.

Edit: Clicked on Fairbanks calendar, but this gives Ft. Wainwright. Must be the closest place that they have data for.

Another Edit: This is the 8 to 14 day temperature prediction map for the US. Note that interior Alaska is the only place expected to be below normal, along with wet. Tough luck, guys. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/product...14temp.new.gif

The weather gods are punishing us in the interior for complaining about last weeks heat with excessive rain and cooler temps. I feel like I've moved to the southeast. I've actually started some fires in the wood stove myself. Bring back summer! We are sorry for complaining about excessive sun and heat!

It's a funny thing... t-shirt and hoodies in +50*F degree weather in the summer, but in the dead of winter if it warms up to -10*F you will see folks in shorts, flip flops and t-shirts.

No sh*t.

Temperatures of 60 degrees during the day in the middle of the summer is quite cold for Fairbanks. It's supposed to drop around 47 degrees at night.

I don't mind one or two days of reaching 80 degrees, which is what we average for the typical year.

We hit that on Monday, but now it's back to rain and cool.

60's and 70's are more comfortable for most outdoor activities, I believe.

Speaking of heat waves, this one has more teeth to it:

"..It was a historic day in the annals of meteorology on Thursday, July 21, 2016 in the Middle East, where the temperature in Mitribah, Kuwait soared to an astonishing 54°C (129.2°F). If verified, this would be Earth's hottest temperature ever reliably measured outside of Death Valley, California, according to wunderground's weather historian Christopher C. Burt..."

The temperature in Fairbanks has not even reached 60 degrees by noon today, and more cool days are in the forecast. At night we are having temperatures in the 40s (47 last night).
