From what I understand, the funds for these tickets would have come from a recently implemented alcohol sales tax. But the idea seems to have been shelved. Nonetheless, homeless individuals in Anchorage who want to go somewhere else can hit up the Salvation Army for travel funds; unlike Bronson's plan, though, they'd need to have someone on the other end of the ticket vouching that they'd provide them with a place to stay.

I'm not going to pretend to know what the answer is, but I'm pretty sure this isn't it.
Anchorage's initiative to relocate homeless individuals to warmer climates raises concerns about unintended consequences. Potential challenges include cultural adjustments, strained resources, and potential disruptions to destination communities. Thoughtful planning and collaboration are crucial to addressing these issues and ensuring the well-being of both the relocated individuals and the host communities

KTUU has interviewed some of the homeless still on the streets and they have said they don't want to be inside.
This explains the situation between assembly and mayor.

That article is over a year old and doesn't fully explain the whole story. The mayor's office issued a $2.5M contract that they were not legally allowed to. The assembly shut it down and the courts decided the contractor was to get paid regardless. So, millions of dollars later and we got nothing for a dedicated homeless congregate shelter with a navigation center.

Amazing that anything Suzanne Downing barfs out from her lair in Florida is taken seriously by anyone. FTN.

Really, that's where she's at? Regardless of her location, "Must Read Florida" seems much more appropriate for the content of that site.

And now it is a pissing match between the assembly and the mayor. The mayors plan is still the best solution to the problem and the cheapest!

why not snowbird in SoCal or Ariz? Millions of people migrate to the southern states during the winter. If you're homeless and unemployed, it's a no brainer.

Can't leave them all at the border ... the feds have been doing it over a year.

Typical Alaskan; dump your problems on someone else to pay for and call it a solution.

Edit: the mayor's "solution" has been shelved, so I guess Anchorage will have to figure something else out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting the assembly either. I believe a trimmed down version of what the mayor wanted would be a good part of the solution. The way he went about it was just wrong and illegal, and the assembly refusing to do anything the mayor suggests is just wrong too. It's a complicated problem and no single solution is going to fix it.

As it is now, we went from congregate housing in a hockey arena to congregate housing in a garbage truck maintenance garage.

Meanwhile, a couple hundred yards from my office is a homeless camp that would be a perfect setting for the next Mad Max movie.
