I just need to ask her where it was. It really was a great comparison.
Neph,

I have very good friends who are doctors and specialists in the UK. In fact, one of them is visiting me in early September and I pan to get a first-hand account from him.

My wife, Jan, is from England and there are many times she'll talk about how much better NHS is then here. Sure, at times you have to wait longer for some things, and yes you can have extra insurance, but at least if you don't or can't afford insurance you don't have to go bankrupt to pay the bills, like here.

Of course I realize that I am paying for my own healthcare through various forms. That's the whole point, how is your statement in anyway germaine to the discussion of government run healthcare?

I also pay a private business(s) for my groceries - I don't expect the government to buy me food.

I pay a private business(s) for my auto insurance - I don't expect the government to insure my car.

I pay a private business(s) for landscaping service - I don't expect the government to cut my grass.

Why is health care different?

One more thing - the Constitution is NOT a static document for all eternity. The Founders were smart enough to recognize that. Alas, some today aren't so smart.
Yes, there is an established process for changing the constitution (remember high school civics class?). Just because we haven't been following it lately doesn't mean its open season for the Congress to usurp any power they feel like at the time. It really means we have a government out of control.

Man.I feel like I'm in church and you are preaching the Gospel!!Its like when will we stop with this notion that we are a "perfect"nation? It's like it has come to a point when you cannot have a free thinking society because so many people want to stick to the way we have always done things.America became great because of it ability to create needs thats were not met in any other places in the world,Its called INNOVATION.We are so stuck in "labels".Democrat-Republican,Secular-Non-secular,Black-white,etc...When all it really comes down to right and wrong.Yes right and wrong is subjective to a point ,but when sides are not able to compromise ,the issues become stagnant because both sides have an unwavering attitude to adapt to changes that are required to at least bring parties together for Compromise.

What is this idea that anything "liberal" is "un-American"?If I'm not mistaken Liberalism is how this country came about.I have asked this over and over, and I have never got a good answer. What great idea have ever been born out of being conservative?
I have to say that Sarah Palin is one example of a person who is conservative ,and who says and doing things are contrary to the notion of any free-thought what so ever.Conservatism has turned into anti-intellectualism.

Back to the topic is this behavior in having a Garage sale suppose to cement her in the public eye as a "regular Joe"?Is this "Presidential Behavior"?This is so transparent its ridiculous!Yet you have people across the country that will stand behind her because she represent the people!!It has gotten so bad in this country ,that in Politics people really look down on "intellectualism" as if it represent "elitism".Why are we punishing our leaders for being smarter than we are?George W.Bush was elected TWICE.Now I'm not saying he is stupid, but is he was never considered by anyone as an intellectual. It seems all you have to do is talk in a "folksy accent",throw in a "golly gee",profess how much you "love the Lord" and go to church at every engagement and W-A-L-L-A-H!!...you in!I'm sure many will dismiss me as some type of "liberal",who is anti God and everything else Conservatives will say about Liberals.Well let them.It just proves my point.

If we were a democracy, GWB would not have been re-elected.

The Fratboy's reign is unraveling. Tom Ridge, his Secretary of Homeland Secretary, is now letting on that the Bushies were screwing around with American's head with their colour-coded terror games for political gain. I am sure we will hear more of that in the days ahead.

Look up the definition for terrorist, you'll find that it fits GWB to T. In my view, he truely was one of the largest terrorist the world has seen. This is just my view.

If you ask me, the entire department of "Homeland Security" is just one more big government power grab. And yes, that whole color coded fiasco that used to change every other day depending upon which way the wind was blowing is assinine. It really just turned out to be a way to generate more overtime for state and federal LE everytime the "threat level" went up. And don't get me started with the whole taking your shoes off at the airport. I used to work in a secure facility and we had a screening process that included metal AND explosives detector portals, x-ray, and biometrics. You could clear the entire process in about 60 seconds. At airports however we get the TSA - a bunch of freaking keystone cops. One more example of government efficiency!
