Its fact that all pit bull owners have mental issues themselves...

Many cities nationwide, that have had these pit bull issues, have made it mandatory that any pit bull out in public must be leased and wearing muzzles

I guess thats because they are so loving and not dangerous, right ?

Call it blather or whatever you wish, the truth is the truth. Of the ones I've had I never once had one bite anyone or attack another animal, as I said before, if it had, I would have had the dog put down immediately. I supervise my dogs very closely regardless of the breed and they are never outside without a leash and that goes for my little 14 pound Pekinese.

And yes there are cities and states that have banned this breed along with many others because of "stupid, ignorant, uncaring owners." I do agree that pits and certain other breeds should be muzzled when in public as a precaution.

Where is your "proof" that pit bull owners have mental issues???

I have mainly owned mix-breed dogs in my lifetime and mixed breeds can be aggressive also. Any dog can be.

Strange, cause I sure have seen many people who don't even own a pet and have some real serious mental issues.

Everybody" who owns a pet thinks theirs is the smartest, prettiest and the most gentle.

Yea, but mine really is the smartest, prettiest and most gentle. You may be the exception, Pat, but I've yet to meet a pit bull owner that doesn't have issues and isn't just a bit proud that people are afraid of the dog while they give their "he's so sweet" speech.

I've been bitten by a husky and a pit. Our neighbor girl was mauled almost to death by a rottie, many village children have been mauled by huskies. A friend had two sled dogs killed by a german shepherd.

Still...there is a reason that insurance companies will often not cover pit bulls and rotties specifically. Many landlords have policies that specifically prohibit these breeds. Bean counters in back offices don't care how sweet they are or how they are trained...they just look at the numbers.

http://www.dogbitelaw.com/PAGES/statistics.html

" In more than two-thirds of the cases included in the study, the life-threatening or fatal attack was apparently the first known dangerous behavior by the animal in question "

" The number of fatal dog attacks in the USA has been going up. The yearly average was 17 in the 1980s and 1990s; as stated above, there were 33 deaths in 2007, 23 in 2008, and 30 in 2009."

"According to the Clifton study, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, and their mixes are responsible for 74% of attacks"

" 68% of the attacks upon children "

" In more than two-thirds of the cases included in the study, the life-threatening or fatal attack was apparently the first known dangerous behavior by the animal in question"

" If a pit bull terrier or a Rottweiler has a bad moment, often someone is maimed or killed"

"
"Pit bulls and Rottweilers are accordingly dogs who not only must be handled with special precautions, but also must be regulated with special requirements appropriate to the risk they may pose to the public and other animals, if they are to be kept at all."

Cops: Man apparently killed by dogs raised by daughter - Chicago Breaking News (http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2010/01/man-found-dead-after-apparently-being-attacked-by-dogs.html - broken link)

Quote:
A longtime neighbor at whose house the daughter and her family stayed Sunday night said he thought the attack was out of character for the dogs, which he has found to be friendly in the past. Another neighbor also said Wilson never appeared to have had any trouble with the dogs.

Quote:
Avantis Smith, 31, a next-door neighbor to the family, said he found it hard to believe that the dogs had attacked Wilson.

"She had them under control," said Smith, who has lived next door for 20 years.

"There was no meanness or nothing like that" in the dogs, Smith said.

Smith said he had seen Wilson walking the dogs on his way to the bank in the past. The dogs were always friendly, and would jump up at one of his windows from next door, wagging their tails.

Another said he also had seen Wilson interacting with the dogs with no trouble.

"They always obeyed him. I don't see any reason for them to attack him," said Ruffin Davis, 62.

The daughter was stunned last night and could not explain what had happened, Smith said.

The owners of these 2 dogs are renters, just moved in. I'd be surprised if the landlords or insurance company knew about them. The houses are packed in like sardines with as little as 5 feet between roofs, so it takes an extra effort to be a good neighbor. What bothers me the most is that living within city limits, you have a reasonable right to assume some measure of security/safety. My kids and I have been approached (once almost attacked) by aggressive dogs just walking to get the mail. I will say that most of our neighbors are great dog owners, who keep their pets leashed of the time. It's sad that the few who don't ruin it for all.

And come on...all pit bull owners aren't crazy, but most are too arrogant for their own good.
