too many times the people that get dogs of certain breeds do not properly take care of them.

People should research the breed they want to get BEFORE they get them to make sure they are fully capable of handling such an animal and then having the guts to admit it when they cannot.

This thread is about irresponsible dog owners and dog attacks. Not about attacking each other. Mellow out or I'll delete the thread.

No, I didn't miss the point. You're trying to say that pit bull bans will result in other breeds being "banned" as well. I think it's legally a bit more complex than that.

It seems as if a local ordinance in Fairfield, Iowa, that states restrictions for canines 100 pounds and over is the reason that most of these breeds are on the "list" in the first place. The others are on the list because they have pit bull like characteristics; i.e, square heads/short jaws etc.--and the list itself is suspect. I haven't been able to find a single community in the U.S in which golden retrievers are "banned" though I suppose the few of them who weigh over 100 pounds would be restricted in Fairfield. I suppose it's possible they're "banned" somewhere but I'm not seeing anything out there about it.

I killed those two dogs...everyone knows that, and I ain't finished

I'm not in any minority here CC. Typical pit bull owner...hmmm...let's see, my dog doesn't run loose, never has, never will, never harmed a human or other animal, has all her shots, is micro-chipped, had a cancerous growth removed 2 months ago to the tune of $750....yeah, typical dog owner. And just what is the non-typical dog owner??

CC are there any special licensing requirements for dangerous breeds like the owners having to carry special liability insurance in case the dog does attack another pet or a person?

My final words here are: I am against banning any breed of dog but do believe certain restrictions need to apply to "all" dog owners. As the mod said, this is not about attacking the owners...geeeeez.

Perhaps you need a bigger monitor there Pat or thicker glasses... ?

I didn't say typical dog owner... in the quote above, git up close now, it clearly says "typical pit bull owner"

That fact remains perfectly accurate.

Some people shouldn't be able to own pets if the way that they "care" for them is by chaining them to a tree 24/7 or otherwise neglecting them.

Actually, the mod said that it isn't about attacking the other posters. Seems like most people here agree on the owners. They're ultimately the ones responsible for all these attacks.

Barfly, some communities do require dangerous dog insurance.
