The damage that Locksley has done to UNM football will take years to repair. Keeping him for another year will only add to the misery.

They confirmed today he is staying one more year at least. In his defense, he has had some limitations. However the excuses end this year. 4 wins or give him the boot.

I heard dennis franchione wanted the UNM job again. I wish we had gotten him, not the greatest coach but he wanted the job and would have done better then locks no doubt.

Keeping him is the cheapest solution.

I'm also guessing that they didn't want to have three, count-em, three
multi-six-figure ex-coaches getting paid for nothing while they were
overpaying the two working coaches.

ESPN has just announced that UNM has fired Locksley FOR CAUSE.

A recruit was arrested for DWI while driving a vehicle owned by the coach and his wife, which is a clear violation of NCAA rules.

Of course, losing to FCS Sam Houston State did not help. To me, the loss was not a surprise as SHSU is rated #10 in the FCS.

At last, the reign of ineptitude is finally over.

Hey UNM.. I've never coached or even played football; how about you sign me on as head coach? I guarantee I won't do any worse, but you must give me a similar contract (golden parachute, etc.).

CBS' Dennis Dodd is starting rumors that UNM might go after Mike Leach.

I'm not even a Lobos fan and would be excited by that. I always thought Leach was railroaded by ESPN/Craig James.

Sam Houston is a whole level below where UNM is supposed to be, so it is a surprise in that context. With Locksey coaching that game, not a surprise. I'm glad he is gone, now maybe the football program can be a little closer to being worth the huge sums of money spent on it.

A few Football coach salaries:
Kent State, Doug Martin, $190,0000
Alabama, Nick Saban, $5,997,349
New Mexico, Mike Locksley, $760,500
Maybe we should have spent more?
