All that you said, Zoidberg, is true enough. So I suggest that the band and the cheerleading squad, and all non-essential support and spirit organizations associated with UNM athletics be disbanded and their remaining resources go to the team instead of my fellowship and my department's tenure positions.

The trouble with using sarcasm in an online forum is well-documented. Many can't tell it's sarcasm, and many think it's rude. That's why I try to keep my sarcasm to a minimum and to make it very overt when I do use it.

That said, what department? I might tend to agree with you if I think it's not a worthwhile area of study (though it'd have to be on par with basket weaving for this football coach). :-)

As an outlander, I was surprised to see that NM State beat UNM. That doesn't usually happen, does it?

Turns out there's a whole article on the subject.

According to the article, all-time advantage is 66-30-5 in favor of UNM dating back to 1894.

It's official.. UNM is now the worst football program in the nation, according to ESPN.

What does that make NMSU, who had negative yards of total offense in the second half before benching their QB prior to the last drive?

You could compile the best high schools in New Mexico, combine both NMSU and UNM squads together, and the high school team would probably win by 3 TDs.

As much as that sentiment would be reasonable after THAT game, either college team would destroy a high school team due to size and speed difference.

I have seen eight guys off a USA Today ranked HS team vs. a MAC level bunch of guys and to put it fairly, the high schoolers learned a little humility.

La Cueva or Cleveland could beat the Lobos! What a freaking joke.

The Lobos are like the Espanola football team, they just won't be a football school, or this just wont be a football town. Let's stick to basketball, ask Espanola.
