Interesting on the tea. When I was in my early 40's no BP meds etc 130/80 was a very respectable reading for me. With years my BP elevated and hence found myself go to the meds. I worked hard to NOT go there but I guess not hard enough. At this point, I wouldn't know how to start going off and maybe at close to 80, the meds are OK. 130/80 is still very respectable to me.

Well they say 120/80 is normal and lower is always better. As I said earlier, I am yet to experiment with dose level of pills after starting the tea. I need to discuss with my doctor and see how to go about it.

I don't think "they" know what is normal and what is OK for each person. They keep changing the guidelines and now I don't even look at them, if I'm around 130/80 even 90, I'm fine. BP changes every minute of our lives, even in sleep and with dreams.

One can be too low too and that's not great.

they do change it like they do with so many "what is normals" Mine, for years was about 110 or 120 over about 70. About 10 years or so ago it started climbing. Now, on a mild dose of meds it usually runs 140 over about 70 to 80. I have read studies that claim lowering sodium really isn't the answer. Well, I don't know but I love my salt and admit it. Hubby BP used to really high. He was on massive doses of meds. Now he is on none and it runs about 125 to 30 over about 65. Don't have a clue why it is no longer high. Regardless he is happy. I think if I lost about 20 lbs mine would drop back to normal.

They keep changing the guidelines based on evidence that people with lower pressures do better.

Blood pressure does normally vary during the day and with activity. If you are uncertain whether you have hypertension, it's possible to wear a blood pressure cuff that records readings over a 24 hour interval.

Not everyone is salt sensitive, but for some people reducing salt can make a significant difference. There is no practical test that can determine whether you are salt sensitive or not. If your pressure is not satisfactorily controlled, reducing salt to see what happens is certainly a good option.

Consider the DASH diet.

that is anyone's guess. I think a bit of it had to do with his fighting cancer and his state of mind, but whatever, after all the cancer surgeries and radiation plus a new doctor it started down. Now, as I said no meds and no high bp. He did lose a little weight but not that much and he upped his exercise a little.

I'm 54, have exercised most of my life and watched what I ate. My blood pressure was on the high side. So I went vegetarian the past year, still exercising 5 days/week. Blood pressure is still high, no change.

I'm trying desperately to not have to take meds. I did find something that lowers my blood pressure, with no adverse side effects, and it actually makes me happy. Marijuana. Within 20 minutes of vaporizing the marijuana or eating it, my blood pressure goes from 155/95 to 124/85. There is much information confirming this online, do a search.

The problem is I don't want to be high all day every day. So perhaps I may talk to my doctor about getting marijuana that is high in CBD, which research has shown to be the medicinal part of marijuana, and low THC, which is what makes you high.

Why don't you try hibiscus tea and see? I purchased organic one from Amazon.. I started with 3 cups (1 bag per cup) at different times of the day and eventually adjusted it to two. It had very significant effect on my blood pressure.

Good idea, what I've learned about other things to try if I had known 15 yrs ago perhaps I would not be on BP meds...but fear of just getting off them...ummm
