It seems like more and more reports are being broad-casted on tv networks and in the news about gangs in Anchorage. How many of you actually have had incidents with these so called gang affiliates personally or have had a close friend or family member been victims of them? The way I see it if you don't hang where these 'gang members' go ie pool hall, bars, clubs, certain neighborhoods, at the mall at certain hours and days then there wouldn't be any issues.

Gang members drive around on the main streets of Anchorage and yes there have been issues affecting my family and those I know. We did not live in any areas of Anchorage that people are warned to avoid. Just because it is not in everyone's back yard doesn't mean there is safety.

I have. This Gang of Thugs beats me up every month when I write my mortgage/property tax check.

Gang activity is pretty much "Meh" in Anchorage. Lots of wanna-be's, very little real players. I have a New Jersey "Guido" that keeps trying to sell me "delivery service" that causes more heartburn.

I work in the same building as one of our local bail-bondsmen. You can always tell when the wanna-be's come in for a consultation. They look out of place in a halfway civilized environment.

As far as running into them? Avoid billiard halls, Dimond Center, and Fair/Mountainview and you about got it covered.

My daughter and friends were being harassed by gang-like people over by the City Diner. Anyone that has the intent or mentality of a gang is bad news for innocent bystanders. They don't publicize a lot of things that happen in Anchorage.

"By City Diner" = Billiard Hall. I wouldn't hang out there either. But I understand the sentiment. My daughters 21'st Birthday Present was a CCW class followed by a trip to Great Northern Guns.

Welcome to the 21st century I guess...

They were just walking to the convenience store for a snack. I wouldn't have allowed that but she was spending the night with a "friend".

I haven't experienced any crime in Anchorage. Mind you I currently live in Wasilla, but I have lived in Anchorage before. However, we used to live in Rabbit Creek, which is a nice part of Anchorage. Considering the population, Anchorage has a high crime rate, but I've never seen any "gang members" just low lives. I still go out in Anchorage such as Koots, Kodiak, and Bush Company for example and haven't had any problems in these places. I wouldn't be worried about gang crime in Anchorage as long as you stay away from illegal activity.

I am glad none of you have been touched but we have and we don't associate with illegal activity. Things can be very random anywhere you live. That doesn't mean you need to live in fear but you know, sometimes bad things do happen to innocents and it can happen in Podunk, USA or anywhere if you cross paths randomly with bad people. APD isn't sharing a lot of things with the public.
