Yeah, I came up here in my 20's and have been here over 30 years. Married an Eskimo and figured I fit the definition. Maybe not. Here's another take on it....

NO! You were not born here. Your birth certificate is from another state. If I was to move to NYC and live there for X amount of years and begin to call myself a New Yorker, then I will **** a lot of the REAL New Yorkers off!

I can see your point but apparently your definition differs from most others. You are about 20 years old, according to another post of yours. Many of us on this forum were here in Alaska many years before you were born.

Do you remember the long cold Fairbanks winter of '80/'81 or the incredible aurora we had that year. Nope, you weren't born yet, but we were here.

I've seen countless people on this forum try to pass Dick Proenneke off as a REAL Alaskan time and time again.

He's just another Alaskan fraud born in Iowa.

Why do you assume that everyone who moves to Alaska wants to change it?

I hope the people in Atlanta have been more welcoming to you than you are to folks who want to move here.

Good Heavens. Calm down, Maurice. If you don't like how big Anchorage is becoming -- and I really can't blame anyone if they don't -- consider moving to another part of the state when you graduate from college. Many communities in Alaska are actually shrinking in population.

I knew this guy who used to say (probably still does) that no one who came to the state after the year 1960 could be considered a "real Alaskan" -- even if they'd been born there. Of course he was wrong, and you guessed it -- 1960 is when he moved up from California.

I wonder why it matters to some people so much -- my son was born in Alaska, and I have cousins who have more of a right to claim to be real Alaskans than anyone in this thread, unless Warpt's in here somewhere, but they just don't seem to take it to this extreme.

BIG DEAL! I am upset that outsiders come up for 1 year and then become eligible for a PFD and collect it for a few years then LEAVE! They are USING US!!! REAL ALASKANS need to get elected into public office and change the eligibility requirements for PFD, so outsiders can stop coming up here and draining our state's resources! It is not right and not fair to REAL ALASKANS who have lived in AK their entire lives!
