This year is weird, but normally people sled supplies in late Feb, to late March depending on temps.. No one lives up there year round but one guy is there most weekends. There are a few cabins there, not me!

Also, water will be an issue. You will need a rain catchment system but that won't be enough. Totek lake is tannic and undrinkable from what I can tell. Tanic acid at low levels is ok but higher levels? Possible carcinogenic(?) and slows obsorbtion of food into your system.

There is a stream entering the lake on the east side. Flows through the Alders and push-ups, not a stream in the "classic" sense Not sure how that would due in the winter though?

I really don`t plan on making a profit, just enough for food, and ammo, and fuel. I make all my own clothes cloth and leather, .any thing to do with iron or wood I can make my self. as far as working for some one else , NO I am on my last job now ,is the best job in the world. I am not coming up there for money My deal in Alaska is something I have to do for myself, Hopefully I won`t have to see a town or too many people for at least a year, maybe longer.I have a nice ATV with tracs that is a wonderful invention, The trappers that trap the area if they don`t live there year around then they get second best Home boys rule They have to learn to share

Your additude toward the other trappers will win you no friends out there and you need friends.. I'm sure you willl be shocked on how much living of the land costs.

Not saying you can't do it, but..

that has been a ethical rule of trappers forever ,and yes to live in Alaska everything seems like it costs 2 to 3 times what it cost in the lower 48 would it not almost be cheaper to make a trip a year to lower 48 for complete re suppling

Fairbanks is as cheap on most things as in Washington State. (No sales tax.) Buying there is fine. Getting it to the property is the expense.

Contact the ATA and read the trappers ethics. Alaska is not the lower 48. (If you don't learn that your ride will be a bumpy one!) Using another mans trail for trapping is like sleeping with his wife. Big no-no!

I work the trades in the lower 48 and spend off time in Alaska.
