When we moved up years ago from Oklahoma my kids were 1, 3 & 5. Took us 8 days. My kids survived just fine. If I was in your shoes I'd get rid of as much stuff as I could. Then I'd box stuff up and Uhaul it to Alaska Marine Lines/Lyden Freight in Seattle. You could even barge your cars up or at least one of them. But in all honesty it's cheaper to drive up. Thousands of people make this move every year coming or going.

With your information, we are looking into a Uhaul with our truck being towed behind. Driving that up to Seattle and loading all the stuff onto a freight in Seattle. Will then drive the other vehicle up while sight seeing.

How does the freight work, we would empty our boxes from the uhaul into a shipping container? Not exactly sure of the process.

That's exactly how it works. And it depends on how much stuff you have and what size it is. Call AML and talk to them and tell them what you are doing. They'll have suggestions on what you need. It may be a whole container or they may be able to palletize it. The people at AML handle people moving to Alaska all the time.

Looking to be more expensive then I had originally anticipated, especially with having to ship 2 vehicles.
The job is paying for movers and our 2 vehicles, sorry I can't help.

So I currently have a leaf, an all electric vehicle and it appears that there is no infrastructure or charging stations in anchorage. So now we're looking for a vehicle for me. Would an all wheel drive work well?

It's nice to have but not needed. Tires are more important than drive system.

If you're a new driver to snow and ice I'd recommend an all wheel drive. Sure, you can drive a two wheel drive car or truck up here, I did for many years, but if you can swing it go for an all wheel drive vehicle. You'll be glad you did.

We went with UPack. It was more reasonably priced than driving a Uhaul towing the car would have been....safer too. We drove the car up loaded down with our bikes and misc things. Took 5 days. The trailer from UShip gets dropped off this week.
