Very unfortunate, but it looks like he will survive.

Police officer shot, seriously wounded

Quote:
Neighbors in the area of a Fairview shooting this morning in which an Anchorage police officer was seriously wounded said they heard a series of gunshots about the time of the 2 a.m. incident. The officer had responded a short time earlier to a call involving a family dispute.
I'm not so sure about sending out patrol officers by themselves at 2am, though. There are some violent and armed nuts out and about in Anchorage. It's good to have backup right away.

Sounds like a deliberate hit. Hope they get the guy fast.

I don't want to start a gun debate but isn't there something that can be done to reduce the number of guns in the hands of people who will use them for this kind of mischief? I think I see too many stories about gun use for no good reason.

Well, if the firearms are possessed illegally, and the suspect is captured, the police could certainly go back through the chain of provision/custody of the firearm, and press charges against anyone involved with an illegal transfer. But that would probably require federal authorities to step in, and I'm not sure how many resources they are actually willing to dedicate to prosecuting those sorts of cases.

I'm not a 2nd Amendment Groupie, but their argument that gun control laws only keep firearms out of the hands of honest people is appliable here. If people want to engage in illegal activity with a firearm, they will do it, whether possessing a gun is legal or not.

Rep'd ya on that one!! Countries who have disarmed the people still have crimes committed with weapons! the criminals will always have guns and I believe in protecting myself from them and it is my right.

Prayers for the officer and his family that he survives and continues to serve!

My only problem with that rational is when was the last time we read of someone who was packing a gun defending them self or stopping a crime from happening? Every story is about someone packing a gun and using it in the wrong context. Nuff said!

That's the weakness in the NRA argument. Not only do you not hear about those types of situations, but I'm not sure I want to hear about them. It would be a scary world if we went back to the days of the wild wild west and vigilante justice. However, legistlating gun control is also not the answer, in that it would not prevent situations like the one that occured today.

Yes, N.Y. and DC are prime examples.

Why would a liberal slanted media report this? It would go against their agenda. These types of self-defense situations happen everyday all over the country.
