I have an 'Arizona Cardinals' license plate frame on my truck. Now the question is.. can I get pulled over for having the word "Arizona" (on plate frame) covering up the word "Arizona" (on license)??

I have to agree that this is both a revenue enhancement device, and a means to subvert 4th amendment protections. There are already plenty of legitimate reasons to pull folks over. If someone is speeding too much or racing in and out of lanes, pull him over. If someone has expired tags, pull him over. If someone has a piano hanging off the back of his Ford Escort, tied down with dental floss, definitely pull him over. But this thing provides an excuse to pull over nearly 3/4 of drivers at any time under any circumstances. Sure, I would pull off the plate frame if had one, but it is still nonsense.

And to anybody who thinks that only a scofflaw would feel this way, the only time that I was ever "pulled over" in my life was eight years ago driving through West Virginia. I was obviously lost trying to get back to the Interstate, and a deputy simply helped me find it.

Starting Jan. 1, police can stop you if "Arizona" isn't clearly visible at the top of the plate. Violators will be fined an average of $135, plus court fees, depending on the city where the violation is discovered.

Law targets license-plate frames that obscure 'Arizona'

Insane!!! I just got a ticket a couple months ago....I better check mine. Anything to make money. Thanks for reporting this...

Oh, come on - chill out.

I started looking at some of the frames and frankly, if I were a cop - I'd want this law because I could not identify the state of origin on a number of plates.

Oh yeah, because there are so many state plates that have saguaro cactus or red mountain on them....

Does this apply to someone from out of state, say, texas, drving through AZ? Or are state residents the only ones that can be punished by this state law?

Actually, only one plate has the cactus - the other 30 or so don't.

Yeah, but most people have the 'normal' one. There are veternas ones, kids, pets, etc, but still most I see have the new AZ one (new in past 8 years or ?). The statement was laced with sarcasim anyways....that's always transparent on the Internet.

Do you really want our police officers pulling people over for this? I mean seriously, it, i suppose, sounds like a decent idea, but to enforce it is a waste of manpower if you ask me. Of course we could all be good residents and obey the law in the first place, but that would make sense.

Too true. I always like to report out of state vehicles at the schools and the workplaces, but those frames do make it hard to see the plate.
