All foreigners around me speak Mandarin Chinese pretty well. You don't worry too much about your Mandarin, you will speak it well very soon.

You will be able to speak more fluently if you learn Mandarin in Taiwan compared to in Mainland China.
Why is that? I've heard they have different accents and writing systems.

It is more or less true, but only because US allows educated Asians in only.
Except for a few illegal immigrants and a few political refugees, the vast majority of new Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Indian immigrants in the US have an advanced degree. Others have no easy way to get a green card.

So if I have an overseas Ph.D degree in a certain field, would I still not have an edge in getting a job in Taiwan?

What I know is Taiwan is better than Spain, but a slightly far behind than Italy.
Jiangsu/Zhejiang is more looking like Poland right now....
Things in Europe are far more expensive than in Taiwan or mainland China, especially food.

Probably, but it won't pay well.

There are a lot of locals who have advanced degrees from the US, so it isn't as special as one may think.

Hi there, I have just sent you a PM. If you could answer my queries, I would really appreciate it.

Obviously, except that those who have advanced degrees from the US usually stay in the US.

I've met many foreigners in Taiwan and Mainland China. Those who have studied Mandarin in Taiwan speak Mandarin more fluently in general.

How helpful is Japanese proficiency in getting a job in Taiwan as a foreigner? i.e. Are there many jobs there that require(or as an asset) such skills?
