Well, at the very least, that show the PLA takes their training really seriously!

I remember my officer telling me before that 'victory loves preparation'.

There's still conscription. This administration says that they're gonna end it in these couple of years, but that won't happen.

Besides, conscription is the least of all problems of Taiwanese military force. It's laughably corrupt. Conscription or not, a serious reform is desperately in need.

No, it hasn't been 2 years for a long time, it's 1 year now.

1 year for all vocations? That isn't much time for training; 3 months for basic training, another 6 - 9 months for vocational training (infantry, armour etc); at least another one more year to develop competence in it........

How is the job market in Taiwan for foreigners? I've heard there's an issue of brain drain there. If I speak at least a near-native level of English, will I be able to get a non-teaching professional job? (I have a Bachelor's degree in pharmacy from Australia, however, no pharmacist license. And I will be graduating with a Ph.D within the next three yrs. or so)

In what field do you wish to be employed? There is translation and editing work that you might be able to do.

Do you speak/read/write Chinese?

I'd like to work in the R&D sector(maybe) of a pharmaceutical/cosmetic company. My level of Chinese is extremely basic. Is Japanese proficiency helpful in this field in Taiwan? I've heard Taiwan has been quite pro-Japanese throughout its history.
