I miss those times - late 90's when both teams had great players- Sohail Abbas, Rehan Butt, Shabaz /Wasim Ahmed, Jugraj Singh, PIllay, etc. India only beat them occasionally yet it was high quality games.

Wow Great to see someone remembering Hockey. Gagan Ajeet Singh and his reverse stick goal against Pakistan in Champions trophy - the memory bring tears in my eyes. Sandeep Singh scored so many Penalty corner goals against Pakistan.

Both Jugraj and Sohail Abbas used to find space and placement for their Drag flick.

Pakistan was better. Rehan Butt was so good player and a very nice gentleman. He played in India for various leagues. Shahbaz was from some other planet - uff his explosive acceleration !!!

Yes. Dipak Thakur also scored in that match. We made a great comeback.
From Pakistan side, Rehan Butt was a very young player that tournament but his goal defeated India later on in the tournament. But what excitement what players and what crowd used to come in the stadiums. Jugraj Singh accident sunk that team.

We have had a downfall in Hockey . We have won the most World Cups and were the best team from 60-90's and now struggle to defeat Netherlands or Germany . Same case for Squash . We had players like Jahangir and Jansher Khan who dominated the game of squash for 40 years and now we can't seem to do that.

What happened to your Hockey Team now ??

It has pulled out from all tournaments. Withdrew from Mens Pro-League, cant see them in Sultan Azlan Shah Tournament of Malaysia and they are not even in World Cup Qualifiers. Suddenly closed the shop or what ?

Same thing with Football- no participation.

With Imran Khan as PM, atleast a boost in Sports was expected. But opposite is happening barring Cricket !!!

This thread seems to have lost its fireworks too.

Pakistan’s F-16 combat jets have all been accounted for, U.S.-based Foreign Policy magazine said, citing U.S. officials, contradicting an Indian air force assessment that it had shot down one of the jets in February.

I also didnt believe that version. I thought F-16's flew into Indian territory and IAF Mig 21 were out to intercept them, but then got shot down. Not really sure if it was a combat mission or just intercepting mission.
