Pakistan’s F-16 combat jets have all been accounted for, U.S.-based Foreign Policy magazine said, citing U.S. officials, contradicting an Indian air force assessment that it had shot down one of the jets in February.
That's because F16's were not used. Reporters couldn't tell jet differences if there life depended on it.
They were JF17's, Pakistani jets designed by China, but still superior to any of the Russian and French crap that India uses.
I also didnt believe that version. I thought F-16's flew into Indian territory and IAF Mig 21 were out to intercept them, but then got shot down. Not really sure if it was a combat mission or just intercepting mission.
There was lot of false reporting by media and so called official Twitter accounts from both sides . I would say that in response to Indian Jets dropping explosives in Balakot, Pakistan Air Force sent F-16 inside Indian Territory . F-16 dropped explosive on empty ground. To intercept this plane, Indian Air Force sent Mig 21 to intercept F 16 but on the border, Pakistani JF 17 were already waiting and in the resulting skirmish, Abhinandan Mig 21 was shot down by their JF 17. He fell on Pakistani side. Neither India nor Pakistan side initially talked about shooting down of F 16. It is TV channels only which propagated this lie. Another investigation which Indian air force is doing is that whether our helicopter which went down killing 7 airmen was due to friendly fire only. Anti missile system got activated due to F 16 incursion and shot our own helicopter possibly

Pakistan official sources also claimed that they have one more pilot in hospital. Who was that guy then? What was the need for them lying ? Some mystery is still there.
whats the use of shooting down satellites if you cant shoot down jet fighter?
seems to me India is trying to match China's strategic capability and forgetting they still need to match Pakistan's conventional forces re jet fighters

There are many factors to be considered . Just having a superior or expensive aircraft is not any guarantee of downing other jet. Probably geography is not in our (India) side as airbase may come into Pakistani radar surveillance..Skill, height, Radar surveillance, speed, timing, luck all matters. India lost 2 Jets and one Helicopter in Kargil War also

India developed Satellite shooting capability in 2012. It is only now that they actually demonstrated it. Possibly as this is Election Year in India.
doesnt happen. India maybe seething with anger but they couldnt use their nukes against Pakistan. thats how deterrence works.
they could not even retaliate with overwhelming force w/o risking a nuclear war.
so unless they are willing to have a mutual destruction, India will just contend with low intensity conflict.
nukes tends to stop war for getting out of hand.
Not only that, but using nukes against your neighbor would be the height of folly. Imagine all the collateral damage that would ensue as result.
What is often forgotten is that when the US dropped theirs on Japan, the weapons were nowhere near as powerful as nukes are today.
