Cronyism delayed response in China
Officials gave testing kit contracts to 3 small firms with they had personal and financial ties
The flawed test kits made it difficult for scientists and health officials to monitor the pandemic
Remember when China hid the fact they locked down Wuhan and the rest of China because they recognized how deadly this virus is? Remember when they buried the fact they constructed two hospitals in like 3 days?
No, I don't remember that either.
You guys are like kids who were told Santa was real at 5 and now that you're 60, are still angry about it.

so when is the initial spread exactly? the reality is that this crap had been in the US before it was identified in wuhan. When do you think the US will actually find out about this had it not been identified in china?
You can't do that anymore in citydata (you used to be able to). Do what the rest of us do - humor him/her or put on ignore.

It was originally confused with pneumonia because of the symptoms. In fact, pneumonia was part of the name given to the illness. It had been in China (and probably Europe and US as well) long before it was recognized as a disease that went beyond pneumonia. That was one of the reasons for the slow response in the US. They assumed that the cases would drop dramatically as it became warm and that would be the end of it.

You might mean "the flu". Covid itself can cause pneumonia and it's pretty serious.

it wasn't known back then, it's actually still call "wuhan pneumonia" till this day. the point is that no one knows much about this newly discovered virus in the beginning of the year, as more and more studies showed up you would see evidence of this virus already spread around the world in late 2019.
