Sure this person is bitter. Bitter that the world doesn't agree with him, and worse, is enjoying itself not agreeing with him. Unlike the sign-holder, who is making all the sacrifices and turning down all the fun to be "right". So he has to resort to prospective schadenfreude.
Inciteful words as usual.

Apparently, according to The Oatmeal, the backfire effect is when our core beliefs are challenged, and the same part of our brain that responds to physical threats responds to the intellectual threat, so all the new input goes plinking off the progressively hardening mental bomb shelter.
That's interesting. I am particularly interested in the Projection effect. Which can't be taken too far - I can hardly believe that the plcard wearer (1) secretly loves all those things. Rather I'd think he simply is displaying a a lits of sins as part of his cult. He probably doesn't even think about what those things mean or care whether the perpetrators go to hell or not.

"Look, I didn't ask to wear this stuff...it's just a job!"

(1) there was a famous regular in Oxford street whose placard warned that eating nuts led to anger and all the associated sins.

Prospective schadenfreude is an insightful expression. That one stuck with me.

Gotta figure the guy with the dark tie is not really part of the "trio". Just a guess.

And what gender is the person on the upper left? Costume and hair are kind of at odds.
