That was a good review of the portrait..yes, it is not a 'marriage made in heaven', but Sister Wendy might not have realised that it didn't matter in those days.
And yes, apart from the theology, the propaganda aspect of Dore's (is it Dore?) painting is worth looking at. Aside from the ludicrous idea that Lucifer would think a rebellion would work (God just has to snap his fingers and it's gone) and could persuade any angels to join him, that God would find it aesthetically neccessary to make the disgraced angel comform to human conventions of vile appearance like Tolkien trnsformed fallen elves into Orcs, shambling oafish fanged and ...black....yes, always black. It makes me Very uncomfortable, that. And yet this is a Human convention. There's no reason to suppose that God would transform Lucifer at all. It's pretty petty. "ok pretty boy...since you went over to the dark side, lets dump you in the lava and make you ugly..."
No, Job, knows, Lucifer is God's gofor and as angels can visit you unawares, Lucifer might have turned up on a Job for God, and you'd think it was an angel...
Joking aside, that's an excellent insight and review Transponder. Cannot give you reps as I need to diversify them before giving you more, but well done indeed!

Yes Harry, in a pitch black room with no illumination other than the subject matter, she had a "habit" of doing that!.......
Here I have ~101 important projects to work on, all now supplanted by mandatory viewing of other fascinating Sister Wendy videos online. Oh, f' it.
I'd love to hear her appraisal of the other Paradise Lost engravings.
Sister Wendy just recently passed, so You Snooze, You Lose Tant!! Your options for an SW interpretation of the PL engravings are tri-fold at this point.
A. Transponder could provide a very credible interpretation of them if you asked, and I mean that in all seriousness.
B. You can go crawling on your hands and knees over to the Christianity forum and beg forgiveness for all the sarcastic comics and hair raising religious album covers you have been posting here over the years. They might, maybe, take pity on you and attempt to contact Sister Wendy in the hereafter for an interpretation of them on your behalf.
C. If you watch enough Sister Wendy videos, you will eventually be able to provide your own interpretations.
