So they come back full circle to what everyone else believes. Faith that something made it happen. Their faith is in science, other's faith is in Intelligent Design. But those who believe in Intelligent Design are losing their jobs because of that belief. Does that make sense? NO

Plus I don't accept the idea that religious people think they are superior. If one follows Christ one needs to be humble toward others. We are no better or worse. We are equal. When I hear of an atheist, Madeline Murray comes to mind and I feel bad someone thinks they know more than others and how her life turned out.
If Madeline Murray O'Hair comes to mind when you think of an Atheiest, then maybe Westboro Baptist comes to mind when I think of a Christian...

It's a two way street and there are extremists on both sides. I'm an Atheist and although I applaud Madeline Murray getting rid of prayer in school, she had a twinge of crazy that you cannot solely blame on Atheism.

Ah, but many of them do think they are superior....morally, spiritually, intellectually (though I will never see how hard-core fundies and evangelicals can ever get there as they reject or ignore scholarship). Everytime one of these preachers or followers point their dirty little fingers at someone else's failings (real or perceived), they show their lack of humility. Everytime the say how "they know god, they know his mind, they know his heart, they know this and they know that", they show their pride. As many of them walk about and disrespect, demean, and bad-mouth the traditions and ways of other people, they show their haughty spirits. Unfortunately for Christians, the loud-mouth Fundamentalists and evangelicals end up representing all Christians and stain the faith.

Madeline Murray O'hair? I don't feel sorry for her at all. People create their own hells. You cannot go through life being a bitter or rotten person and not have that come back on you. Though I'm not a believer, the bible does have some good words and wisdom (I just don't place any religious signifcance to them). You reap what you sow (on this earth) is something some people just don't get. Understand that this woman no more spoke for non-believers than uber-fundies speak for you. I personally couldn't stand her because what she was doing was against my libertarian ways. Believers do have the right to believe. She was way overboard. I mean protesting CBS's Touched By and Angel? Seriously? Really? This is important? She was a nut-job.

Default Is this what you mean about he said Science kills people?

[The] Third [problem with Darwinism], which I think is overwhelming, and just sort of blows the whole theory of Random Mutation out of the water, is, at least, let me say, raises big questions, that is. Assuming it all did happen by Random Mutation and Natural Selection, where did the laws of gravity come from. Where did the laws of thermodynamics come from? Where did the laws of motion and, of heat come from? Where, I guess that's the same as thermodynamics. Where did all these laws, that make it possible for the universe to function, where did they all come from? Why isn't all just chaos and everything collapsing in on itself and killing everything?

Apples and oranges: Physics versus Biology. Why do we catch a cold? Do we pick up the rhino virus randomly or is it ordained?

Default Not apples and oranges when you consider this

[I did] Some [reading to prep for Expelled]. I read one book cover to cover, From Darwin to Hitler, and that was a very interesting book--one of these rare books I wish had been even longer. It's about how Darwin's theory--supposedly concocted by this mild-mannered saintly man, with a flowing white beard like Santa Claus--led to the murder of millions of innocent people. Here he comes the conclusion science kills people. I can see how it got there. Of course, what he said was taken out of context.

Love of God and compassion and empathy leads you to a very glorious place- science leads you to killing people.

Madeline Murray changed society----The Westboro Baptist nuts have led to nothing. Who is the most dangerous? I would chose Madeline Murray hands down.

Well, considering Madeline Murray is dead and the Westboro Christers are still out there protesting funerals, I'd say they are the most dangerous. Personally, I'm tickled pink she got rid of prayer in schools. If she hadn't, someone else would have... and I think it changed society for the better.

How is that taken out of context? What context justifies this claim?

Let's say Goddidit!
How was God who is apparently smart enough to create those laws come about?
let me guess, he was always there? nobody created him?

how can you believe that and NOT believe that the laws "were always just there"!

It is taken out of context because the first half of the sentence is ignored. The compassion part. But people do that all the time to prove their point. It's done with the bible everyday----like the Westboro nuts do.
