Hi, all.

Ok, I have posted a couple of times before, asking advice about where to look for homes (to summarize--working near Emory, looking for a newer home, decent yard and good public schools for around 350K). I've received some very helpful information--thanks! So now we have done some more looking around, and are still having some issues. We love the Johns Creek area (especially Shakerag), but I have done the rush hour commute a couple of times, and let's just say it is fairly miserable (1 hr, 10 min. or so). Some areas of Alpharetta seem more driveable--the Barnwell elementary area, for example, took me about 45 minutes. Lilburn we've been told is much more tolerable commute-wise, and we've heard good things about Camp Creek elementary. The housing also seems more afforable--the tradeoff, I guess, being it doesn't seem as stable/upscale as North Fulton. Finally, we like Peachtree Corners, but have read some not-so-complimentary posts about Simpson on greatschools.net (teaching to the test, etc.). Also, it is generally more expensive than the other two areas.

Does anyone have any opinions about Lilburn (Parkview cluster area) vs. Peachtree Corners (Simpson area) vs. North Fulton in terms of schools, commute and general desirability of the area? If the drive wasn't so much of an issue, we'd be moving to Johns Creek.

Thanks again for the help.

i would pick peachtree corners near spaulding drive and holcomb bridge. I would pick north fulton second. Lilburn is becoming infested with gangs according to my sister who has 2 teenage sons so she moved.

If anyone wants moving advice, stay near spaulding drive from peachtree industrial west to roswell road, it is very nice, sometimes expensive.

I would not worry about house price if you are gonna live there 10 years or more, money means nothing if you are unhappy.

I will give more detailed reply tommorrow when it is not 2am here.

Also, schools can only do so much, it is all up to the students motivation- i known kids who went to bad schools but have harvard mba's now.

Spaulding at Holcomb Bridge is actually in the Peachtree Elementary District -- while not a bad school per se, it has real issues with transiency. The Simpson district offers far more stability.

Many, many high performing schools teach to the test in Georgia (a dirty little secret) -- the parents just haven't found greatschools to complain.

My friends in Peachtree Corners are all very happy with the schools as they are in N. Fulton. I don't know anyone in Lilburn, so I can't comment on that specifically, but sometimes when your gut is talling you need to listen.

Thanks for the responses, HowdyYall and lastminutemom, they are much appreciated. Regarding North Fulton schools, does anyone know anything about Hillside Elementary or Roswell North Elementary? These are somewhat closer in. How about the middle schools these two feed into, Haynes Bridge and Crabapple? Thanks!!
