Ahm, Im pretty sure you dont really mean this. Most gun owners do not end up shooting themselves. What you probably meant is that when there is an accident with a gun, in most cases the owner shoots him/herself.

This seems a little inconsistent. If one doesnt like the state/political organization intruding in our lives/deaths then one shouldnt approve of the state mandating safety" training. In both cases it requires people be "under a government.

Conservatives are opposed to the idea of Government as nanny state.

PS: I have owned guns for 30 years and never shot myself with any of them. Also, fyi, I have used a gun to defend a home in a self defense situation.

^^^Not as bad as the hoods in NYC, DC, LA, Dallas, Phoenix, etc
Kind of have to disagree - I grew up in NYC and now, the only "ghetto area" is probably in the South Bronx and even that has been cleaned up pretty well. I've walked around NY by myself at some pretty odd hours and have never been bothered. Right now I live in LA and work downtown - right near a place fondly known as "Cracktown". While I wouldn't walk around on Alameda at midnight without security escorting me, I don't fear getting shot walking to my car, just getting chased by the homeless lady that likes to run in front of passing cars. And aside from the random and bizarre shooting of the publicist in Beverly Hills, you do not hear about people getting shot and dealing with such dangerous home invasions in relatively affluent areas like I assume Va-Hi is.

Bingo! I agree. People view crime by what is on the news. If the news in NYC or LA doesnt report the crime then everyone feels safe. Any crime that happens in Atlanta will be posted on here by the Atlanta haters. When the same crimes happen in other cities people do not post it in their forum

I disagree. NYC has just as many dangerous neighborhoods. Riding on the trains at night can be just as dangerous in NYC. Only difference it our news likes reporting crime to scare the public for better ratings. The news in Northeastern cities do not report crime as much as our news. NYC and LA are the home invasion capitals.

Some people act like Atlanta is the only city with home invasions

Hey tonygeorgia I tried to give you a rep point but I'm doing this from my phone. Plus I don't really know what I'm doing so I was just clicking on random icons. Anyways, I don't always agree with you but I thought you did a solid job of providing evidence for your point regarding home invasions. The ONLY thing I would question is if those home invasions occurred in the bad part of town or the good part. I'm too lazy to do the research and honestly dont care enough to do so.

^^^

I would say it probably happens more in the good neighborhoods. I figure the criminals want to go where the money is.

The NY ones were in the Bronx, East Elmhurst, and upper part of Harlem. The Brooklyn one was not a random home invasion - the robbers were looking to steal marijuana from an associate. The ones in LA that I skimmed are Pico, Downey, etc. All areas with gang activity. How many home invasions are occurring in relatively affluent areas? How many of these home invasions are prompting neighbors to take up arms to defend themselves? If it started happening in NY, I bet you that any local paper would jump on it.
Crime happens everywhere and there's a lot of sensationalism but the fact that random folks feel the need to buy a gun or two does not seem normal. Maybe it's a sign of the economic times or the fact that it seems like ATL is experiencing a population boom or maybe I'm just a big ole liberal that expects the police to take care of these matters, but it's still troubling news for outsiders like me that hope to make ATL my home.
Anyway, it's just a point, not really looking to argue.
