after 22 pages, i still stand behind my comment in here that he is just another deflector so that ron paul can be stonewalled while they try to find somebody else to nominate..... he is just a filler so that the public can be entertained with something gop.

he will never be in the running and will disappear overnight like he was injected into the candidate list

It's the way politicians have controlled the mobs since the days of ancient Rome. "Vote for me and I will drive out the invaders and give you food and money!"

It resonates w/ conservative voters because of its simplicity, not its substance.

The #1 tax change needed right now is not higher or lower rates . . . it's a more simple and basic tax code so that people don't think they're being screwed by a tax code that my own CPA can't even keep up with . . . and he worked for the IRS for 7 years before he started private practice 15 years ago. It's insane how much time/energy businesses have to allocate to legal tax avoidance.

Herman's plan is a new idea, and as far as I can tell, the ONLY new tax plan being brought forth by anyone in either party. Would it pass thru Congress and Senate as is? Not a snowball's chance in hades, but this is the time for new ideas . . . not criticizing the only guy who's had the balls to put a new tax plan up for public ridicule.

If people think the 999 plan would help to create jobs (maybe the theory is less taxation means more investment and spending for goods and services, I'm just speculating here) then maybe some folks would actually be happy to get off welfare and start paying taxes.

I think I did hear that the poorest of the poor would still get an income tax credit, but the area where it would hurt them would be in the hike in sales tax.

On the other hand, there are many people working under the table (here in California it's pretty rampant) and the sales tax would at least force them to contribute.

This plan seems pretty radical and it would have to be seriously analyzed. But at least it's a start, amd I believe his sincere motivation is to get people working again.

I'm not criticizing him for putting out a plan, I'm criticizing the plan.

Shifting more of the tax burden to the poor is not what we need. Not only would it crush people that are barely getting by, but it would hurt the economy because poor people spend a lot more of their income than rich people.

I'm not saying a sales tax couldn't work, but it would have to have an exemption for low income so that the poor are not hit with a higher tax burden. The Fair Tax plan had this, so far I've not heard anything specific about this in the 999 plan.

Absolutely. I can't understand why ANY taxpayer on either the right or the left would want to maintain the present tax system.

Theres a difference between voting for a new tax plan because it's better than the current one, and voting for a new tax plan because it's different than the current one. I absolutely detest the current tax system, not because of how much it makes me pay, but because of how long it takes me to go through everything (and how complicated it is). I'm not going to vote for a new tax plan that makes it easier if that tax plan's end result is not good for the country at large.

If someone put forth a plan that removed all these silly deductions, and ran a progressive system such that the poor were putting in a small amount, and the rich were not able to dodge it using tons of loopholes, then I'd think about it. This plan isn't that.

Different ≠ better.
