thank you canuckmom. That helps a lot and also helps put me at ease. I have one more question. My husband and I were looking for homes in Alpharetta and Cumming last night and came across a video of a press conference regarding Forsyth County gangs. Do you think there is a gang problem there? The police also mentioned that the gangs were recruiting kids from the schools there. Any insight? I really just want to make sure I am making the right decision by taking my children out of the area we are in to a place that we need to know more about. Do you know a realtor in your area specifically that we could touch base with?

Default Alpharetta Gangs?

MMM - really don't think gangs are much of a problem in 95% of Alpharetta & Cumming. I do recall hearing about some supposed gang activity in Alpharetta about 3 years ago - it was some kids spray painting gang signs around town -turns out they were just "wanna be" gang kids, who copied some "logo" from an inner city gang.

I guess it is possible there might be some gang activity in certain parts of Alpharetta/Cumming but it certainly is not prevalent. BTW, I have an 8th grade son who is pretty "hooked" in as to what is going on at the schools (he is a skateboarder type) and he isn't aware of anything.

That video was the topic of another thread in the Atlanta section...it is about Forsyth County North Carolina, not Forsyth County Georgia.

You mentioned you don't want to love on top of your neighbor. You will in Alpharetta and Cumming. Your $250,000 will go further in Cumming as it is less expensive that ALpaharetta as far as homes go. Remember in Forsyth you taxes will be approx 1% of your home price. So figure $2500 in taxes on a $250,000 home.

I had more land in Jersey...they love to cut down trees here.

And I miss the Jersey foods....I really miss Shoprite!

I have been living in Alpharetta my whole life(Country Club Of The South). And i would have to say that Alpharetta is a very safe place to live...even tough im only like 16. Also the housing is considered to be very expensive here....but the houses are really nice and big and worth the money you pay for them.

Georgia is one of the friendliest state i ever been to, the farther south Georgia you go the friendlier and prettier it gets. Like any big city it has its bad areas but ive been lost in atlanta sevral times and never encounerted anyone who would not help. Ga is a very growing state and plenty of oppertunity waits.

Where in Atlanta?
Gang-related?
Family-related?

Certain types of murders can happen in a large city and not increase the threat to the general population.
