Well, considering that just about all the stops in between are wealthy white suburbs, I guess not.

Well I'm sure placing HJIA did not help the area.

Did you ever take the B or D into the Bronx? Or the A through Brooklyn and Queens? I think the point Lovin is making is that no matter where you are, there are going to be poor and wealthy areas. When you are on a train that ONLY serves the wealthy areas (AKA MetroNorth), there will be less panhandling, noise disruption, etc., because those that need to panhandle won't be going in that direction. If you get on those other trains I mentioned, and probably 90% of any of the other subway lines in NYC, you will deal with panhandlers, "musicians", homeless people sleeping, and a host of other things you rarely see on MARTA. Maybe because NYC is bigger people tend to look past it? I don't know.

Point is, obviously, there is nothing wrong with wealthy suburbs - but don't compare a train that ONLY goes to those wealthy suburbs to MARTA trains, which all pass through communities that cross the spectrum of SES.

The difference is that MARTA going in most directions is serving some of the poorest neighborhoods in Atlanta. Metro North is a commuter train that serves the Gold Coast: New Rochelle, Rye, Greenwich, Darien, Westport et al. Why would panhandlers be on it in the first place? Said poster was comparing apples and oranges.

Mass transit isn't meant to only serve the wealthy and middle class on their way to HJIA, but its to serve the masses and anyone who pays the fare.

Let's just move the airport to Cobb county also so that that nobody from the northern arc ever has to be exposed to those icky poors and undesirable minorities.

Does it really matter? You step off the train at five points and you are in "another world" anyways LOL

Metro North does serve some poor and depressed areas like Yonkers. I went up there looking at apartments, and never actually saw them. Our total time in Yonkers was 30 minutes which was 29 minutes and 59.9 seconds far too long and just enough time to walk away from the train station, then walk right back. But, Metro North is commuter rail which is far more expensive than any subway so there's less chance of that kind of people being on the train.
