GA State station to Turner Field is a straight walk down Capital Ave, while Cumberland Transfer requires a walk thru Cumberland Mall Parking lot, crossing Cobb Pkwy(good luck), and crossing under I-285. Let's be honest its a lot easier to walk on the wide sidewalks of Downtown with slower traffic that's used to pedestrians, than walk narrow suburban sidewalks with faster traffic, and drivers not used to pedestrians.

Ok gotcha.

I don't think that's fair though since MARTA had a direct shuttle to Turner Field. So:

CCT terminal to the new stadium is a mile.

MARTA Shuttle to Turner Field is 100 feet.

I see it pointless that a professional stadium move away from existing transit. Transit helps move fans to the stadium easily, safely, without the risk of getting lost. It allows fans to get to events on time, when traffic can be unpredictable. It also allows the team to use less valuable land on parking lots.
The Falcons new stadium was kept close to existing transit. The Braves organization could have worked with the private people mover company and the city to build rapid transit line from existing transit station to the stadium. As we have seen with the streetcar plans, Atlanta has plans to run a streetcar next to the stadium connecting to Five Points and West End.

It's still a good mile though, isn't it? Plus to get to Georgia State you have to transfer at Five Points, if you are coming from the north like many of us are.

Yes, because transferring SO hard. If you don't want to transfer to GA State, you could always take the Braves Shuttle.

Keep talking about how great Turner Field's location was. Maybe that will bring the Braves back.

It wasn't perfect, but its a lot better than the proposed location. The Braves got 2 stadiums for free. The first at the expensive of Atlanta residents, moved in the name of urban renewal, and the 2nd by the Olympics. The Braves are going to try and create an organic experience, but good game day atmosphere areas are not created from scratch.

This entire conversation, like just about every thread on the C-D Atlanta forum can be summed up by the ever present obsession that many of you have.

No matter what the topic, the solution is always to build transit, and the problem is always not enough transit. It's time to beat another dead horse and to learn a new tune.

Well the city had nearly 20 years to improve the area and experience and let's face it, they dropped the ball.

I hate the move for selfish reasons but other than not being able to take transit it will be fine.

it terms of transit, weren't the braves going to build the maglev train form the GA state station? Turner field, thus, would have ultimately been connected to rail.
