I agree. We need at least a minor league team to be able to go see some baseball in the city. But I think the way things are trending back into town in 10 years there will be a lot more demand for a second MLB team in the city than the Braves in Cobb.

Under a theoretical online encyclopedic entry for "How not to run a major league baseball franchise", the answer would be : "See Liberty Media's ownership of the Atlanta Braves."

Also, see other attendance collapses found throughout the history of baseball when a franchise has turned lousy both onfield as well as in management/ownership.
My comment was merely on the people saying that the Braves are going to be bad for years or possibly forever.

Metro Atlanta isn't getting a 2nd team in any sport before DFW or Houston. And it will have nothing to do with intown location or demand to see something in the city. Atlanta can barely support one team. It's not large enough to support 2.

Considering the population of the metro has increase almost four fold since the Braves moved here I don't think that is right. Politics of getting the team may be tricky but it is definitely possible for them to have plenty of support, especially if you are looking at 10 years down the line. Not to mention they already have a built-in rivalry with the Braves that will attract them many fans (like me) that still like baseball but will no longer be supporting the Braves.

I really hope that traffic is backed up 20+ miles on 285 and 75 on game day when the Braves move to Cobb

MLB and the Braves will never allow it due to the Braves having territorial rights over the area.

Seriously, no...this will never happen for several reasons.

I hope not. I might want to go somewhere north of there!

Idiotic post. You act like the Olympics are coming to a rural area with 2-lane roads.

By DOT estimates, between 300,000-500,000 cars pass through the northwest corridor every afternoon rush hour.

A sold-out Braves game, at 41,000, will add on average ... 15,000 cars ... increasing the northwest corridor traffic by .... a whopping 3-5%.

And ... games will start at ~ 7:30 ... average fan will arrive after rush hour.

And ... average game will NOT be sold out ... so realistic car load is more like 10,000 cars.

Ask the Giants and A's about territorial rights
