It has everything to do with it. I noted that the company decided on reasons that made sense for them.

It doesn't mean that every merger is the same. In fact, they won't all be the same because companies have different reasons for their decisions.

Exactly.

So will that huge Suntrust complex still be called the Suntrust Center? (Or whatever it's called.) I always liked that place, and routinely go up to the food court for lunch when out that way.

The original name of it was One Peachtree Center.

This will definitely hurt Winston-Salem's civic pride but it may wind up with even more jobs due to this merger.

I’m not sure where to post this, but the theme relates to banks(ish)
Does anyone know why Invesco is not mentioned as a Fortune 500 headquarters on Forbes because it is definite big enough I believe. Is it owned by another company?

It is only a Fortune 1000 company.

It was listed as #907 on the Global list last year.

ok thanks. I still find it puzzling that the company isn't listed on the Metro Atlanta Chamber websie as a fortune 1000.

I agree that Winston will loose more in pride than actual employment. Its a lower cost area to do business and there's no reason to move anything (besides the executive team) that doesn't absolutely need to.

On the other hand, there's a huge incentive for the new Company to move as much employment and property to NC from GA. NC has a 3% corporate tax rate compared to GA's 6%. Both states apportion taxable income based on three factors - payroll, property and sales. The first two factors generate big tax savings by moving them to NC. I expect a sale of the SunTrust plaza and a new Charlotte HQ to help with the property apportionment factor. In terms of employment, its the complete opposite dynamic of Winston; there's no reason not to move everything, except for what can't be moved.

The bolded is an example of what I was getting at earlier.

This economic loss should inspire Georgia to look into ways to to improve its tax code so we can be on a more competitive footing going forward.

And yes, I agree about SunTrust Plaza. All signs are pointing in that direction.
