Fewer drivers on the road due to the coronavirus outbreak should not translate to excessive speeding when folks leave home, said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.

His complaint follows reports from Sandy Springs police that 52 people have been stopped for driving over 100 mph on Ga. 400 and I-285 in the last three weeks. Some were driving up to 129 mph, Paul commented.

Yes, I had 3 motorcycles on 75 that passed me. They were easily doing 120+. Go figure two of the 3 didn't have a helmet.

Wouldn't now be an excellent time to fill in potholes and make tremendous progress on all the roadwork going on?

It's the same here, except its almost legal as we have 75 / 80 MPH zones in the city and 85 a bit further out on one of our roads... and noone's getting pulled over for it.

GA-400 was the Alpharetta Autobahn, there were always people doing triple digit speeds on that road.

I've seen this before plenty of times. Haven't driven south of Holcomb Bridge rd in over a month but I saw 2 cars easily doing over 100 and that was with a decent amount of cars on the road.

Southbound 285 last week near East Point. 5PM "rush hour" and I saw 2 corvettes racing each other. Traffic was going 70 - 75, so the Corvettes must have been going around 110 - 120. Yesterday afternoon there was a significant police presence, finally. Cops writing tons of tickets, no doubt.

Other than the racers, my commute is certainly a lot less stressful lately.

Sandy Springs Police posted on Facebook today that they stopped someone going 172 on 400, I believe.

Scary but impressive. I don't think I've ever owned a car that could do 172 even in a free fall from a plane.

Dang, that's impressive.

Hope the driver is thrown in jail for a very long time.

Why on earth would people do things like that? I understand they may not be concerned about their own safety, but what about the rest of us poor slobs they are putting at high risk? That's why we have speed limits.
