I figure, it's a motorcycle.

I wonder how they stopped him. At that speed it wouldn't be that hard to outrun the cop and hide. That's really flying.

Both of my Camaro's will get up to about 180 - 185ish... After a certain speed you need exponentially more power and aerodynamic advantages to counter the atmosphere we breathe.
That said, I wouldn't ever do it on a public road. There's no forgiveness at those speeds, 1 slight error and its over. Its weird owning two cars rated between 450 and 500 horses yet typically driving slower than traffic is. I put too much money in my babies to throw it all away on some random Tuesday.

...They didnt. They just posted it on Facebook. If it was a bike, it was over before it even began. Even if it were a car it would have been nearly impossible unless he gave up as he would have been literally miles down the road before a helicopter would even get word of it.

I’ve driven around 155 on a public road (250 km/hr). On the Autobahn in Germany, on an open road in clear weather, totally focused on driving, in a car that was appropriate to drive fast. After a few minutes I slowed back down to around 130 where I was more comfortable.

I’ve done 125 in the US many years ago, on the I-5 south of Portland. Once and done.

I did 60 in a 45 on GA-138 just south of GA-20 in Conyers infront of a cop just after graduating High School while owning a Z28. Cop pulled me over and gave me a big warning... Once and Done

I'd be too afraid of hitting those speeds and go by a cop. Not to mention the average driver doesnt really realize just how critical those speeds are and how easily things can snowball real fast.

Not to far from where I live we have an 85 zone where you can 'safely' do 90 and not really need to worry about anything other than yourself and your cars capabilities. At 90 it feels just like I'm doing 45. RPM's below 2 grand, just purring while the landscape blurs by.

I heard back when GA-400 was a tollroad (ITP section) that the toll transponders in the PeachPass lanes were catching and tolling people going in excess of 120 MPH.

I saw an episode on Top Gear they did in effort to test how fast you would have to be driving to completely escape the toll transponders without getting your tag or vehicle caught. It turned out you have to be moving pretty darn fast. They were capable of getting clear license plate photos of cars doing excess of 150 MPH.

Think about it. This is why people who aren't concerned about their own safety hate speed limits. They want to do whatever they want, whenever, however, at all costs, even to those they hurt. Said persons aren't going to care who they hurt. I learned this being in a car with someone who drove 85 mph in a 40 mph zone (on a windy road no less). Said person wasn't thinking about anything except "I want an adrenaline rush, and I get fun out of doing things I'm not suppose to do".

For someone like that, it is because you're not suppose to speed, because you know someone could get hurt, that makes it more fun for that person. You can get an adrenaline rush skydiving, riding a roller coaster, or going to a race course and driving the vehicle around that course. NO, said persons get a rush from doing things that they know are deadly, that they know can hurt others, that they know are illegal. Increased consequences = increased fun for that person.

It's hard to understand why anyone would get enjoyment out of putting innocent people in harm's way by driving 172 mph on a local freeway.

If people simply want to risk their own lives, have at it.

But don't endanger the rest of us in the process.

In GA I will do 5-8 over the limit, or whatever the traffic flow is. I’ve gotten quite boring and haven’t used my Escort radar detector in years.
