Speaking of Ponce, anyone remember a hamburger joint just a few doors west of the Majestic Diner known as "Dobie's"? Looks like it may have been a drive-in diner before Ponce widened and cut the front area back mostly.

I used to get on the trolley after school on Mondays (yes, I am that old!) and ride it to his dance studio. My Dad, who worked at the Auto-Soler plant on Marietta Street, picked me up after class in his '47 Chevrolet and drove us home.

I understand Jack died in 1981. He was a nice guy and a great teacher.

The Municipal Auditorium also hosted some great early rock concerts Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Johnny Winter, ELP, Zappa and many more. Most Fulton County Schools used the Auditorium for graduation (I know mine did). It was at one time heavily used by local Wrestling ("Wrasslin") promoters until the Omni (or the "Ahm-Ah-nee" as the late great Dusty Rhodes used to call it) opened in 72. About this time I remember seeing huge rats wondering around in the bathroom area even as a show was going on. A friend of mine who worked there part time told me that the rats were in the back stage area also and they (the rats) resented it when bands would load in for a show.

I graduated from what was then Atlanta Technical School back in '72--and we received our diplomas at the old Municipal Auditorium.

What great memories...

Man, I saw some great shows at the Municipal Auditorium! Dylan, James Brown, Hendrix, The Who, Santana, you name it.

Most of the top rasslers appeared there, too. That was back in the day of Freddie Blassie, Mario Galento, Wrestling I and II, and Chief Little Eagle. The great Ed Capral called the action from ringside.

My sister saw several road shows there, too, including The Beach Boys.

Does anyone remember a cafeteria-style restaurant (similar to Picadilly or Morrison's - but it also had a self-serve salad bar, IIRC) that was located in downtown Decatur - until it closed in the mid or late 1980s (or later)? Don't quote me on this, but I believe that it might have been on Clairemont Avenue - on the block between East Ponce de Leon and Commerce Dr.. It might have been on the same block as the old Emile Baran musical instrument store. This cafeteria is part of some fond memories I have of the summer of 1985 - when I attended a summer program that was located blocks away. At lunchtime - during the two or three days per week in which this summer program operated - all of us would walk to this cafeteria for lunch.

Does anyone remember the name of this business? I don't think it lasted much longer after I dined there in 1985. And I believe that the building that housed this cafeteria may have been demolished - that whole part of Clairemont Ave. may look pretty different from the way it looked in '85.

Anyone remember the name of the restaurant that was all the buzz back in the 90s and was located (approximately) at the Park Place / Edgewood intersection? Whatever happened to it and is there another eatery in it's place? Thanks!!!

Was that the place on the ground floor of the Hurt Building, Ansley? As I recall you came in through the rotunda, which is really pretty.

The Capitol Grille, or something like that?
