Hi,

Relative newbie to Austin (2 months).

Just wondering how much impact today's rain will have on Lake Travis.

I know it won't be significant but will we see any noticeable difference?

Thanks.

This rainfall won't make much difference if any.

We need a rainfall like the one back in 1912 when 37 feet of rain fell in 17 seconds in the Hill Country. It rained for seven days from San Diego clear thru to Baton Rouge!

There was a prize pig named Hudson who was washed clear down from New Mexico and he got stuck in a bend of the Colorado.

Now that was a rain storm.

How are you liking the pizza and traffic?

The type of rain we need to get our lakes back to a healthy level wont be one you would want to be around. And it will take more then one weather event to do it. We just have too many water users now compared to the past. I doubt I will ever see the lakes full or even near full in my lifetime.

Are you 78?

The water levels will be back up.

Eventually.

No, not 78. I sure do not have much hope in humans. Sure we will get the rain. But we will waste it just as quickly. Too many self centered humans. The human trend is to create a crisis then have some business or political and business collaboration come up with a solution to really screw us.

Never been much of a pizza eater...esp. that Deep Dish crap.

The traffic is bad sometimes but nothing compared to the Kennedy or Edens.

But I'm currently unemployed. My opinion will probably change soon....

Not true. Back in 2007, the Lake was very low. There was enough rainfall by July of that year to cause LCRA to have to open the flood gates on Mansfield Dam.

Rainfall amounts in Johnson City & Marble Falls are more important to the level of the Lake than rain downtown or at the airport. 15-25 inches up river (but not TOO far up river) over a 2-3 day period would give Travis a nice bump.

Good luck on the job search OP.....or open up an Italian-Chicago Beef Sandwich type joint & we'll give you some pub on it here if it's the semi-real deal.
