My first car was a used, 1970 DeTomaso Pantera GT5 bought by my father for me in 1972. I believe he paid $3200 for it from a neighbor of ours. For graduating valedictorian from high school and getting accepted to West Point. There by saving him a "tonne of moolah" as he put it, in college tuition. Got to drive the car all of 1 month, from the time he purchased it until I had to report for Beast Week. The car was put up in storage in the family garage and not driven again until 1980. After I graduated college and returned from my first tour overseas in the Republic of Korea. Drove it again for about 2 years while stationed at Ft. Knox in Kentucky where I met my wife, and got married. We enjoyed driving it all over the Blue Grass state until she said one day, "Surprise" if you can fit a baby car seat in it you can keep it, I couldn't and we sold it. I really love my oldest daughter but I do miss that car.
Your first car was a Pantera?! Be still my beating heart. Best I ever did was to test drive one from Peter Revson's dealership in CA. I loved those cars.
When they first came out I was in a parking garage and heard this roar. We all said, "What the he--'' and this yellow Pantera came down the ramp. Love at first sight. I still make a bee-line for them at car shows. I do not blame you for missing that car!

I agree, the Pantera was a wonderful mix, good powerful Ford 351 Cleveland and Italian styling.
1983 Bronco XLT - 302ci V8, c6 3spd transmission, 320k miles. I didn't like it whatsoever when I got it (my dad pretty much told my uncle I'd buy it, without discussing it with me, LOL) but these days, I miss that truck dearly. I bought a 1995 Bronco XLT 351/E4OD to replace the 83 because I was young and dumb and wanted the bigger motor and more up-to-date feel. That 83 had so much character.... I wish I would have never sold it. A few years after selling, I saw it at a used auto dealership. I had the chance to buy it back for exactly what I sold it for (3 grand) but I didn't have the $ or space at the time. A few weeks after I'd seen it, the auto dealership closed and I don't think I'll ever see that truck again.
first car was 65 Corvette coupe(fast back). Maroon, 327/365 4 speed, PW. Yes I wish I still had it. I now have a 69 Corvette T-top, L46 350/350 4 speed, AC, PS, PB, PW Leather all original. Will never sell this one.
My first car was a '66 Volkswagen beetle with about 140,000 miles on it. I paid about $250 for it in 1974, and I called it "The Green Machine." Someone had painted it pea green, not with auto paint but with regular flat paint, and had lined the fenders with with sparkly emerald green spray paint.
All four fenders were bashed in and the front bumper was missing. In its place was an irregular piece of wood, teardrop shaped, that would scrape the ground whenever I went over a bump. A heat vent was broken, so hot air came through the floor vents all the time. One summer I kicked off my gum soled shoes while driving, and by the time I got home one sole had melted.
The antenna was a coat hanger. The turn signal eventually snapped off due to metal fatigue, so I had to feel for it for the nub on the steering column. The electrical system was so bad that the car wouldn't start most of the time, and the headlights were not much brighter than candlelight when the engine was idling. (They would brighten only if you gunned the engine.)
Still, it was my first car. I loved it and drove it proudly until a friend totaled it on New Year's Eve.
My first car was an 83 Hurst Olds. Black and gray with T-Tops and the lightning rods. Great car but seriously under powered. Bought it in 1992 with 70K on the car. Put about 10K miles on it before I couldn't stand the lack of power. Junked the 307 for a built 383 SBC then naturally broke the stock trans. Replaced that with a TH400 then broke the rear end.. Replaced that with a 12 bolt and she stayed together after that. By the time I was done it was a high 12 sec car and still a daily driver so I was happy.
I took a lot of heat from Die hard Olds guys but I was 17 and didn't know any better or care. Drove the car until I was about 22 and got an offer I couldn't refuse and sold it... Still miss that car to this day...
I wouldn't think diehard Olds fans would care that much about keeping an '83 stock drivetrain. Anyway that must've been a cool car and I wouldn't mind having one like that. I'm sure what you got for it would be a lot less than what it would go for now. Any cool replacement for it now or planned for the future?
