My current car is on its last legs....the engine is sounding really ratty. I will most likely drive it until it dies.....then have a junkyard come and tow it away.

how long? as long as its not totaled, like my previous car for as long as it makes financial sense of repair :worth keeping ratio is balanced.

yeah, I didn't even know my Honda was totaled until I got out of the car, and not realized I had airbag dusts on my hand lol.

Inheriting an '02 Le Sabre, so it looks like I will be selling the Benz. The Buick has only 55K on it so it will last forever.

2001ford mustang gt with around 170,000. Bought new in 2001 and plan to drive till it dies which hopefully won't be for at least 5 years. No major repairs either knock on wood.

I'm not a big car person... I bought a Grand Am new in 2000 and still drive it. I don't know how long I'll keep it.. probably until something expensive goes wrong and I'll just have it towed to a junkyard, go right to a dealership, and buy another car on the spot. As long as they run and are reliable and get decent gas mileage, that's what matters to me.

For what it's worth, this car has. Rock solid engine and transmission for the most part. Other issues were cheap fixes. These years I drive it now are the real bang for the buck years... cost of ownership gets lower and lower compared to trading up all the time.

My 2004 LX CRV I bought new on Feb 28, 2004 has 209,000 miles on it. It still runs like new and uses no oil, but I did have to replace the rear drive shaft and alternator last year. I've been looking at the Subaru Crosstreks,, but am worried I'll really miss my CRV if I sell it. I fell in love with it when I bought it - at the time I couldn't believe I could finally afford such a nice new car. And it has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. It seems like yesterday when I was driving it home for the first time.

15+ years.

The only reason I would upgrade before that is if some amazing new technology came out.

I want radar cruise control and lane keeper on my next car. Get on the highway, set the cruise, set the lane keeper, hands off wheel.

2009 Honda Fit Sport with 100k, purchased new in 2009
1992 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon with 150k, purchased in 2010

I plan to keep both as long as I can. I don't want a car with all that new touch-screen this and automated that.

Let's see:

1991 ford escort- 16 years
1999 ford ranger- 15years (just sold it)
2004 Mazda 6 - 10 years and counting (son has it now)

...when I buy something, it becomes part of the family.
