Subaru's are AWD.
They should be able to kiss 400whp, but going beyond that on stock block is playing with fire. A lot comes down how the tune manages the power as well. Typically you want to keep torque down until you beef up the rods.
ColdAilment is right, it's not much more with a clean driving record. I've had no tickets and no accidents over 10+ years driving. I went from a Toyota Celica (165HP) to a modified Mustang GT (360 HP) and my insurance is only about $100 more per year for a car that's 5 years younger than my Celica. It went from from $584/year for the Celica and $686/year for the GT Mustang. Full coverage with $1000 deductible. I was shocked but I won't argue!
Not sure where you are getting your figures but $1600 a year for a Mustang sounds like teenager rates.
$1600 is what my 16 year old nephew was paying for regular vehicle and I believe that was on his parents plan. My Regal GS was no more expensive than my other car.
I completely agree with you regarding braking/handling upgrades if it were me buying a car. That however is really not a muscle car.
Rav4 V6 is a fast normal car. A Muscle car would have been a RAV-4 with a V8.
Not it wouldn't. It would have been a V8 in a Rav4. As has been said, trying to call a FWD car "a muscle car" is lame, the guy just wants a powerful FWD car, to still be arguing over muscle this late in the thread is silly.
To me, the best handling FWD car ever is still the Acura Integra Type R. They cost a lot of money and aren't very powerful unless you are used too high strung Honda engines.
GM produced a lot of V8s and supercharged V6s with FWD. Grand Prixs, Monte Carlos, Lacrosse Supers, Bonnevilles, Park Avenues, etc etc.
VW Golf GTI. Better balance than Mazda Speed 3, Mini Cooper S, and Ford Focus ST. I have test driven them all and prefer the GTI (although I ended up buying a RWD car).

Morning - Huge fan of the Ford Mustang. Unfortunately I live in an area with snowy winters so the RWD isn't an option.
Wondering if you could recommend a car that has a strong engine, muscle car look with FWD.
(excluding dodge..no offense!)

Honda V6 Accord Coupe with a 6 speed manual.
I don't th9ink you will keep it below 15K for a newer one, but even the older one's would do 0-60 in under 6 seconds if you can drive, handle well, and are typical Honda when it comes to reliability. A total sleeper. The new one's (2013+) will do the 1/4 mile trapping well over 100mph in the low LOW 14's.
If the OP were looking for a brand new FWD 2 door coupe, his options are very limited today. Off the top of my head his options are Scion tC, Kia Forte Koup, Honda Civic coupe, and (though not a coupe) VW Golf. All but the Scion tC offer a performance option. The Scion tC can be upgraded with TRD bolt on parts that doesn't violate the warranty. They all average around 200 hp (Scion tC with the bolt on parts). None are as fast and powerful as the Nissan Altima and Honda Accord coupe with V6 and they're no longer being made.
If I was looked for a FWD car with decent muscle & wanted something that drove & felt like a RWD car the I would head to Ford & buy the Focus ST. EVERY review I have read or watched on this car is great. Ford has done their homework on this car.
