Many years ago after witnessing a Gas Pump Fire / Explosion at a local Gas Station less than five minutes after the fact, I can assure you the entire scenario including blood, death and destruction is beyond scary and never to be forgotten.
Why anyone with half a brain would opt to smoke under such conditions has always amazed me and after that horrific experience it amazes me even more.
one reason why we do not see propane powered cars...
What, as opposed to driving around with a tank full of liquid so volatile that it can propel a two-ton car 500 miles down a highway? Nope, never seen a car fire...
The biggest reason we don't see propane cars -- and they do exist, by the way -- is because it hasn't been worth the cost to commit to a wide-scale conversion of infrastructure from gasoline/diesel to propane. Before oil prices started falling faster than Rod Blagovevich's political fortunes, truck fleets across the country were converting to propane because the cost per mile was considerably cheaper.

Are people just not educated on this or do people just have no common sense? This is something were taught back in grade school. You can't fix stupid...

I've worked in the natural gas utility business my entire life. I remember when I was just starting out as a laborer guys digging gas leaks with a backhoe with a cigarette in their mouth. Lots of things have changed since then for the better safety wise.
