I don't think our power grid is ready to support a second night time peak when EV vehicles become the majority of registered cars.
When that time comes, I see there being regulations on how fast of a charger owners can install in their home. Might be limited to 240V / 30A max for EV-only and 120V / 15A max for the gasoline plug-in hybrids with smaller batteries.
Not so. There is no need to build more fossil fuel generating capacity at least. Grid-battery buffers can be built in a very short time to cope with peaks. Solar PV panels can be installed very quickly in millions of homes, providing enough generating capacity.

So tell me how useful that heat pump is going to be when I drive 220 miles to my Vermont place in -20F weather to go skiing? There's no such thing as a heat pump that works down to -20F. You're using resistive heat or you freeze to death.
Makers are looking at composite panels with in-bedded insulation to reduce cooling and heating demands. The best it yet to come.
Hydrogen can unlock a lot more possibilities as far as creating heat.

Not the point. GM, this evil self centred organisation closed down a zero emissions public transport network. LA could have had these today if the auto/oil vultures were kept in check:
Like all public transportation in the US it needed massive subsidies from non-users to operate. The political decision was made to divest. The same thing as happened to privately owned passenger rail. Then Amtrak was created to maintain a minimal level of service.

Electricity generation is not "zero emission", you just move the pollution somewhere else.
