Full sized cars went the way of the dinosaur.

For me, I have both a boat detailing business and a charter/fishing guide service. I much prefer a crew cab/short bed (6 1/2') then a standard cab/long bed. It works better for me and many others. And my truck is my daily driver so I don't want a crew cab/long bed.

The times I use the rear seat area in the cab for easily accessible items far outnumber the times I could use an extra 1 1/2 ft in the bed. Any items 8 or so ft, can be transported on top of the tailgate or with the tailgate down.

We are all different and have different needs for a truck.

Besides, being married (waiting for wife while shopping), I can sit in the cab and recline the seats and take a nap as she may be a while!.

In regards to the original post. Not pickups but based on the 1/2 tons of the day. Way back (sounding like an old man now) in the early to mid 80's I had a 76/77 Jeep Cherokee, both 2 doors. Not the little one but the ones based off the Wagoneer/J10, and my brother had an 80 Bronco. I grew up in suburban MD outside DC so not many around had 4x4's. So, whenever a big snow was coming, me and my brother would drive around and pull stuck cars out. Never collected a dime. We were both having fun and learning how to drive in the snow at the same time.

I also remember hospitals putting adds on the radio stations in those years for volunteers to pick up Dr's and nurses to take them to the area hospitals when snow was a looming threat.

Again, 4x4's in that area were novelty's as they weren't needed. Not much snow in the DC area. I liked 4x4's because I went surf fishing on NC's outer Banks.

It's illegal in my state to have passengers in the bed of a pickup truck. Even if it weren't, the potential for a lawsuit is extremely high. I wouldn't do it under any circumstances.
