The ocean has a lot of crap in it. The odds of it being from this 777 are slim to none.

Also, if you read that article, the "experts" are saying it was not a fire extinguisher but a bomb. Who knows??
The "experts" also said the plane didn't fly over when so many people said they saw it.
As far as it being a prank, it's awfully strange that this part to a 777 flying low and very loud would end up in this very spot.

In particular when considers the usual sea state of the Indian Ocean. It's a frothing, churning mess....

If the new pieces of debris they've spotted really are from Flight 370, I wonder what that says about how it crashed? They're finding several huge pieces. If a plane falls from a great height doesn't it shatter into all little pieces, even if not at cruising altitude? (I think that Alaska Air one was at 12K when it fell).

Do 777's eventually nosedive after running out of fuel? Or is there something they've built in to make it land with less impact that would prevent the plane from shattering into little pieces?

Maybe they confirmed it but.......among the passengers were:
Included in the passenger manifest were 33 Egyptian military officers

I just read up on that area in the Indian Ocean they are searching.
What a nasty piece of ocean...good luck to searchers in finding anything.

I hope someone's working on identifying the object that washed up on the Maldives. Someone was saying it might be a fire extinguisher from a plane. It could be a sign that the crew was trying to put out a fire in the cargo.

We may find scattered debris along parts of the plane's route.

Some world news sources are now pushing the pilot suicide theory. A friend of the pilot has said he was distraught over the breakup with his family. The soap opera has begun. Maybe Oprah will feature these people on a show. I don't buy it. Lots' of people go through divorces all the time, and they don't make a suicide run with their UPS truck or the schoolbus or transit bus they're driving.

Even heavy airliners like the 777 can glide for a very long way depending on the height at which they lose their engines or run out of fuel, long way being a relative term if the distance it glides doesn't make for a safe landing.

Even from maximum height, the plane wouldn't simply disintegrate into tiny pieces. Some larger section would remain intact and fall until impact. Depending on the angle of descent, the structural stresses could exceed the plane's ability to remain whole but even then, large pieces would remain. Then it comes down to what would float vs sink.

If the plane were to break up, any pieces would likely slow down because if air resistance so were the plane in a sharp dive, pieces that break up would impact at a slower speed than if the plane remained intact. Things like engines have often remained more or less intact even falling from great heights.

If the plane came apart in mid air, things like seats and so on might float since their cushions are designed to do just that. Eventually though, even seat cushions become water logged but there is always something that floats, finding it is the trick.
