I believe MLB used a strategy of force and bribes.

Both teams coexisted just fine in the late 50s and 60s. Both DC franchises departed for reasons that had nothing to do with the Baltimore Orioles.

Baltimore went to 4 World Series while the Senators were at RFK and won 2 of them. The Nats were not exactly a threat.

The region as a whole has grown by leaps and bounds since the 1970s. it easily supports two teams just as New York, LA, and the Bay Area does.

Baltimore's issues were self-inflicted due to an arrogant and clueless owner. Nothing that cannot be repaired. They have a great history and one of the best ballparks around. There is no reason to relocate.

MLB is in decline and it has nothing to do with specific cities.

The game itself is relatively boring, the season has far too many games for any individual matchup to be meaningful, and what is essentially a childhood sport has become politicized at the professional level.

Good takes, Moth and Matt.

TheseToGo, we are still waiting for your answer. Or since you apparently bleed DC red and white (the colors of the DC flag), although you may live in the VA or MD burbs, are you suggesting the O's move out of mere spite towards Baltimore, and using market comparisons as a smokescreen?

I agree, Baltimore should not leave. They are a proud franchise.

4,900 tonight at Camden Yards, even the lowly small market Pirates pulled in 8,000. They were outdrawn by AAA teams. So bad for MLB to keep this Baltimore experiment going.

Fire the owner. That greedy billionaire has had a generation to put a viable team on the field; he's in it only to milk the TV revenue.

Baltimore is not an "experiment".

It's the best sport in the world with the most die-hard fans. Covid is to blame for lower attendance game-wide. Despite your best efforts to insert politics into the game, MLB remains the most pure of any pro sport.

The 162 game season has been around for 60 years. Get over it.

Wander Franco has played just 61 games and his best baseball cards are already worth over $15k. That's the sign of a sport that's on bleepin' fire. If you can't keep up with it, get out of the way.

Putting a team in small, declining market with little regional strength most definitely is.

They're being outdrawn every day now by AAA teams, including Nashville yesterday, which is where this team belongs.

Baltimore was not a declining market in 1954. Population was steadily increasing for decades at that time. Bad baseball leads to bad attendance. Baltimore is not unique in this regard. Orioles have been terrible for 4 years running. Why should anyone pay MLB prices to watch bad baseball during a depression?
