Let's go around the division, shall we? I thought you'd like that.

First off, in Houston, Roy Oswalt made his first start since coming off the 15-day DL and lasted 74 pitches and got the win against Cincy. Adam Dunn got a couple of hits off Oswalt, including a grand slam. The Astros felt Oswalt previously rushed himself back a few weeks ago against the Nationals, so the extra rest did help.......

The Cards are in the midst of a series against Atlanta to see which team is actually more beat up. Both teams are battling multiple injuries. It turns out the Cards are getting the upper hand right now, having won Monday's affair. I mentioned in an earlier post about Jason Isringhausen regaining the closer's role. St Louis will need all the help they can get from Izzy against the Braves.....

Four of the division's teams are going head-to-head. Houston and Cincinnati are going after it, and so, too, are Chicago and Milwaukee at Miller Park. This one will have first-place implications. The Brewers fell to two games back Monday night but they have a chance for a first-place tie if they can win the next two games, and possibly overtake Chicago if they should take three in the four-game series. Ben Sheets will go to the mound tonight (Tuesday) for Milwaukee. By the way, the Brewers have a chance at drawing three million fans for the first time ever, as word is out that they are setting new attendance records this season. It only helps when you're in a pennant race.......

The Pirates get the Rockies at PNC and Pittsburgh won on Monday night, 8-4. And how did they do that? With their bench players. It was Doug Mientkiewicz and Chris Gomez going a combined 4-for-8. And this was also the 25th time that the Pirates have come from behind to win a game this year. Twenty fifth. Starters Freddy Sanchez and Adam LaRoche are still out with injuries......

Chicago's Kerry Wood is still nursing a blister on his pitching hand and won't be activated on Tuesday as originally thought.....

And Adam Dunn isn't the only Texan playing for the Reds in Houston this week. Rookie Jay Bruce will be making his first appearance at Minute Maid as a major leaguer. He's going to have him some fun........

And there you are for now.

Hmmmm...........
Dunn is a star, as much as people don't like it he's going to get his.. The rest of the team stinks..

One argument I've heard is "What has the team done with Adam Dunn?"

My answer, "What has the team done with Aaron Harang?"

Take out this year and Harang is a work horse Ace, but two players can't do it all..

Or... the Cubs can sweep them and pad their 2 game lead.

Good point, too, about Harang. If he's healthy, he'll give you some quality starts. But Volquez has the stuff to be a number two, if not the ace of the staff. Dunn will likely continue to be the cornerstone of the Reds' offense. He's proving that time and time again.

6-4, 7-1 against their top 2. My delusions are becoming more and more a reality.

Default Astros Update

We've got the trade deadline coming up, and Astros fans can rest assured that Miguel Tejada is staying put in Houston. GM Ed Wade has assured Tejada that he won't be going anywhere and will remain an Astro. There were rumors about him going to Boston in a possible trade, but it doesn't appear likely. Wade, meanwhile, wants another reliever in the 'pen.....

Tuesday night saw Brian Moehler pitch his longest outing of the year - 8 2/3 innings - as the 'Stros beat Cincy, 6-2. Carlos Lee had a grand slam in the fifth inning off Bronson Arroyo......

It will be interesting to see what Randy Wolf brings to Houston's rotation. He may be here only for this season. It's possible he could become a free agent, but then the Astros could get compensation should decide to leave. They desperately need to replenish their farm system. In the meantime, the Astros need someone in the rotation to go deep into games.
